Desigh wall monday 7-26-10

In my quest to be in the numbers prior to the 40's I am once again creating this post the night before.  I am determined to be in the 20's or something.  I did some research and noticed that the first posts are generally in the 5 AM to 6 AM range.  So I will set my alarm for EARLY.......considering that I go to sleep around 3 AM it won't be easy, but I will sacrifice for the sake of those higher number goals!

So today my design wall is pretty much the same as last week but what I am working on is two-fold.  One of my guilds, The Sassi Strippers, is putting on a Quilt Show in two weeks and anything that goes in needs to have a hanging sleeve. Since I don't normally put hanging sleeves on anything, I am busily putting hangings sleeves on my stuff.

And the other thing is a wild and crazy hair to HAND QUILT the Lemon Lime Quilt.  This will be a UFO which will excite our UFO chair lady, get a UFO off my floor and hopefully satisfy my urge to hand quilt something.  I hope to get that out of my system.  But then I am kinda liking it.  But then I have only started it last night.

I will tell you more about the quilt show later own.  It is a first for our group and has been a secret dream of mine for about 5 years now.

glen:  I DID IT!  Goal accomplished, I am #12!  Although I was so excited I prematurely keyboarded and am just a "g" out there.   I guess I felt like I had to go incognito!

  1. ROFL! This one deserves the number one spot on Judy's design wall monday list, how absolutely delightfullly you write! Thank you for the morning chuckle!
And the quilt is lovely too... I'm not sure how about liking hand piecing though, I think getting it out of your system is probably a good idea. LOL

  2. Mynan gave me the flyers for your guild show and I am going to try to make it. I know that it will be fantastic. Handquilting is a thing of the past for me. #12 is not bad!

  3. Congratulations on being #12. ;-) I soooo love Monday mornings and after last weeks post, I couldn't wait to see where you landed this week.
Sometimes I get the urge to hand quilt something but then I thump myself and the urge goes away. Have fun at the quilt show.

  4. Hate to say it, but the only reason I ever get in there early is because I'm in the UK and the timezones are in my favour - no staying up late for me!

  5. Niiiiicceeee! You made the top 12!! I love to hand quilt but the old fingers don't let me anymore. Your quilt is sassy and cool, love it!!! I don't have any hanging sleeves on my quilts going into the show, man I hope they use clamps to hang them. I really don't like the sleeves on my quilts. I better ask at the next meeting.

  6. I love the look of hand quilting. Every time I see a quilt done that way it makes me think I should do more of it. Glad you made it nice and early. I took a photo last night to make sure I got a post ready before it was too late. Funny the lengths we will go to.

  8. #12 - you have some really weird goals friend. I hate making hanging sleeves. I don't mind hand stitching borders because it's mindless work but you actually have to think about 'sleeves'. I started quilting to 'relax and let the world go by' not to get uptight over things like - 'your sleeve pattern does not exactly match the backing'.

  9. What competitors we quilters are at heart. I have never put a sleeve on one of my quilts. Of course there is usually a home for my quilts before they are ever finished. Your hand quilting looks great. Wish I had listened to my grandmother and learned hand quilting from her when I had the chance.

  11. I think you either have to live in England or be an insomniac to get into this list early. I try, too, but seem to be getting further and further down the line.

My guild is having it's first real quilt show this fall. I accidently volunteered to be the set-up chair: what was I thinking?

  12. I'm just happy to get a post up, no matter where it falls on the list.

I get up so early for work, the link box isn't usually up before I go.

  16. Hey Glen -- When you are getting ready for bed, I am up and going. I can't sleep more than 5-6 hours...then I start getting fidgety. Wish I could have met you at the Quilt Shop today...I think the guy I work with was a little disappointed too - he loves quilts.
