Time for another stash report.  I thought I was going to make it through January without adding a single inch of material.  But thanks to my Birthday and good friend Charlene I now own the most beautiful Mardi Gras Stonehenge and some really incredible mask fabric.

I think I need a chart to track usage and outflow.

I counted Maylee's Quilt's fabrics because I finished the top and just need to put the back together and quilt it.  It turned out incredible.   Everyone loves it, including the momma!  And that is the important person of note!

I am working on my Fifty Shades of Grey piece for the Fiber Group.  And I counted the small hanging for the Lady Slipper piece.  Small stuff this week.  Hopefully bigger next week!

Do you have days when your stuff just breaks?  Light bulbs all seem to burn out the same week, the dishwasher goes on the fritz, the washer won't drain?  Well, I have had two months of things breaking.

First my ironing board caved and tilted, my iron stopped ironing, then my printer died.  My camera stopped taking pictures.  So all that is new.  My favorite shawl I drape around my shoulders when I go out has a huge hole in the end, courtesy of McGee.  My seam ripper/trimmer fell apart in my hands as I was ripping out a long seam.  The rotary cutter stopped cutting, I think I lost a part when I last changed the blade, nothing I could do would make the stupid thing cut.

As I said, so all that is new.  And better.  So it was not all that bad.  I have a new wireless printer that will print from my iPad too!  That is way cool!

Now, my little Brother sewing machine that cost all of $79 three years ago now refuses to set the tension to any setting.  My

It will cost more to have Ray look at it than it cost me, so I am in the market for a new second machine.  I am open to your suggestions.  I would like to spend between $200 and $400, have a drop feed dogs, needle up/down and the ability to have a walking foot.  It is the machine I would take to classes, retreats, and Red Stick.  My big machine is too expensive to be hauling around with the potential for dropping or getting wet or something.

What brands do you have that you like?  What is your favorite one to sew on?  Which one do you take to classes and retreats?  What is a feature you MUST have on your machine?

In fact, I am so confused right now about all the machines and the reviews online that maybe you could just buy one and have it shipped here for me, I will give you my credit card number!!!!!!

  1. Your quilts are just beautiful! Sorry about all your breaking things. They do seem to come in groups, don't they? You're headed in the right direction on your stash reduction. I know my numbers won't hold up for long!

  2. Check out the Sears machines, they are reasonably priced and have all of the features that you are looking for and this time of year, you might find them on sale.

  3. Good luck with finding a new machine. Like you, I find having to make a decision with all the machines on the market is so frustrating. Your fabric additions sound fantastic. You're still in the black!

  4. I also like the sears kenmore machines, was my first one years ago and never had a problem although I have to say my first thought for you was a Hello kitty janome. Looked it up and no needle down which is an absolute must have.

  5. You have had a busy week. Maylee's quilt is so sweet. Hope all your breakdowns are in the past and next week is full of positive experiences for you.

  6. I have a Janome Jem Platinum 760 that I take to classes and retreats. Only weight 12 pounds, has needle up/down and 60 different stitches (of which I've only used 2 or 3). New price was a little over $400, but it has been a great little machine.
Hope you find a machine that works for you!
Mary M. in Minneapolis, where it is -10 right now. Brrr!
