Surgeon's office

Why do I need to fill out paperwork every time I go?  Nothing has changed in 28 years!  And the social security number issue!  Do you give out your social security number to all these people. What do you do?  Am I the only person who has issues with ths?

  1. I don't like it but they always say they have to have it for the insurance filing - hope you are ok

  2. I rarely give out my SS#. I have my original card and it says right on that card "Not for use as Identification" and yet, here we are, using it all the time for ID. ARGH!

  3. I go through the same thing, two of my doctors recently joined a group and I had to do all that and more, all over again because of a new computer system! It gets frustrating sometimes.

  4. Yes, it irritates me! I too remember that the number was NOT to be used by anyone but the Social Security Admin. When I earned a graduate degree at Notre Dame in 1988 we were the last class that had a "real" student ID number. All the later classes were required to use their SS # on their IDs.

  5. I saw a segment on local news the other day that said not to give out SS# at doctor's offices. I've tried not giving it but they said they have the right not to see patients that don't comply. It's a lose lose situation.

  6. My insurance company switched over to using a different ID number. Now when a doctor REQUIRES me to supply them with my SSN, I decline. I tell them when they start issuing me a check that requires them to without taxes, I will gladly supply them with that information.

  7. I think the whole world is lazy and it is easier for them to use your SSN# than have their own idenfication systems. And another thing there is too much tracking of human beings, what we do for a living, where we live, how many people live at an address, how much we weight, family history, etc. If I wanted the goverment to know this stuff I would write a book! Otherwise, leave me alone! I hate data being gathered on me to use in some unknow person's/organizations agenda. FU big brother! Gosh, did this post hit a nerve? I'm ok - I will take a deep breath!
