The Neighborhood

Miss June's appliances
Lest you think I am the only one going through this, I am going to show you my neighborhood as we go around the block on our morning basset walk.
House down the street

Our own pile of trash
Last night we must have had at least 2 1/2 to  inches of rain.  And thee front of the trailer has been leaking but with all the rain the mattress was soaked.  We have been staying in the camper now the paint fumes have been pretty strong in the house.  My lungs and eyes are affected by the rot in the floor in the camper bathroom and now the leak in the front.  Add to that the paint and chemical fumes from the house, i am having a hard time physically as well.
Liz tossed out her french  doors

This holds someone's saved possessions
There are a number of FEMA Mobile Homes and plenty of campers sitting in driveways and yards.  Word on the street is that after the 18 months local regulations allow a mobile home to be placed in your yard, FEMA will abandon the mobile homes to the owners.  It then becomes the owners responsibility to have the mobile home removed and sold.

So, do you think that will actually happen?  I am predicting that people will be happy living in the mobile homes and not putting money into their flooded homes and not pay to move the mobile homes.

there are still many houses where no work has ever been done since August flooding.  Most, but not all, of these houses have been at least gutted.  If I had a good camera I could take photos of the lights inside the houses at  night where you can really see the bare studs inside.

In front of many houses there grows another pile of construction debris.  I am so happy my across the street neighbor Liz and her husband finally started reconstruction on their house last week.   All my complaining and she just started last week.

The claw machine destroys lawns
In the last rain before this one, my next door neighbors Dale and Barb found out their roof leaked.  so they are fighting with their mortgage company to release money for a new roof.  But FEMA Flood Insurance doesn't consider roofs to be "flood damaged".   So the mortgage company won't release money to replace it.

Meanwhile it continues to rain.

We are still not whole, not  even close.  And for all my bitching and complaining and fretting and working, we are closer than a lot of people still.  We have money to pay for things and no mortgage company dictate what we can spend it on or not.

All that.......and I am still unhappy and trying to deal with stuff.  Sometimes I get up and think.....I can't make another day.  And when I lay in whatever bed, dry or wet, at  night I think I can't deal with another day like this.

Hopefully, it will be over by February.  That is what I am shooting for at the moment,  February.

  1. Hugs. I feel your pain. My house fire was 5 years ago today. I struggled with mortgage companies and insurance companies and contractors too. My insurance company gave me 4 months of housing so that pretty much set a deadline in place for all to come together. I was so glad when it was over.
