Quilts, Lunch and Duke University

Lordy.  Woke up to bacon frying.  Howard made us breakfast.  While we are he left to bing his granddaughter Sophia to camp.  Before we picked up his daughter Jenny, we found two quilt shops and bought the Row by Rows and a cute panel for Sawyer.

We drove the rough the different areas of Wake a Forest, Durham and Winston-Salem.  Such a beautiful place, so upscale and bright.  And green.  Very green.

Jenny took us to see North Carolina University where she graduated from law school.   And to Duke University, where her hubby Mark is an administrator.  We went inside the chapel on campus, so beautiful.

And we walked through the gardens created by the philanthropic Doris Duke.  At CAAWS we get a grant each year from the Doris Duke Foundation.  In chapel we saw her burial crypt.

The gardens were so beautiful.  The Asian area had been recently reworked and a new bridge built.  We walked down the lake path and saw ducks and a great blue heron among the Japanese maples.

We ate lunch at TOPO The legendary Top of the Hill Restaurant where the NCU fans celebrated the championship in April.  I am thinking.....basketball?

Back at Jenny's huge house, she cooked us bolanase and a spinach strawberry salad.  She owns a string of gyms in the area where she teaches classes and is a ranked tennis player.

And an amazing mom to two high schoolers.

I was hot, sweaty and thoroughly happy to be with the people I have loved for so many years!
