Weekend Work and Making a Cardinal

I didn't do a lot of quilting this weekend but I did do some things you may be interested in seeing.

I decided to make a cardinal for my Cotton Robin project that is due this month.  I can't show you the piece yet, everyone needs to receive theirs first.  But I will include a post to the starting blocks and the finished pieces like i do every year.

My bird is red, of course.  I freehand drew a bird shape and honed it until I liked what I had.  I traced it on the red fabric.  And cut out two..........actually I cut out one and realized at that point that I needed a back.

I sewed it around and clipped it a lot.  The finished stuffed bird looks fabulous!  I really love the idea of the bird swinging from the finished piece.

It rained for most of the afternoon, and because of the thunder boomers McGee spend most of it in the laundry room with the washer then the dryer going.

I potted some ferns again, to replace the ones that died in the cold weather this winter.  When I put the liner in the wire basket the soil kept falling out when I watered it.  I decided to use some nylon thread to sew the new moss liner together to make a pouch.

I didn't take a photo of of the process but here is the thread!  I guess I paid $3.00 for it somewhere.

See what I scored today?

I had to go to Office Depot to get some copies of paperpiecing blocks for my next project.  and while I was waiting I love to peruse the Clearance Section.  I came across these metal baskets for $4.00 each.

I think they will do just fine.

And I also got a couple of boxes of Command Hooks.  I put a couple on the posts of my cutting table.  Now I don't have to worry about my scissors getting under a piece of fabric as I am rotary cutting.  And they will always be in reach.

Well, it remains to be seen if I can remember to put them on those hooks all the time now. But the idea is a good one.

  3. An idea for you flower pots is coffee filters. Allows the water to drain but keeps the dirt in.

  4. I love command hooks! use them to hang quilts, hang do dads. they also have a plastic (I think it's supposed to be for the shower) small bin perfect to put on the wall next to your sewing machine to stick stuff you want to get at
