Organize Me

My neighbor across the street has a sister who is an organizational specialist. Christine is helping my to clean up the sewing room so I can be more creative in there.  Heck, so I can work in there, period.

Monday will be her second visit. I have been working on the homework she gave me from the first visit.  The fact that she is a slave driver and has a total lack of empathy for those tiny scraps I need to hold on to, I have actually cleared a bunch of stuff up and out.

I realize I need to finish some of those “ projects”.

Lot of projects.  lots and lots of projects.

Did I mention I have a few projects???

So I finished the Flannel Shirts from Rodney.  Well I put together the top and it has a back of flannel from the stash.    I need to get it on the quilt frame and do a neat little meander. I am debating whether to put a batting in it or just quilt it with flannel to flannel.  I did use a fusible interfacing on the back of the flannel squares to stabilize them.  I will decide and get it quilted.

I have enough left over to make another quilt for Diana.  I am thinking more improv with larger pieces and random placement.

I am playing around with the #improvtrianglesewalong on IG with Nicholas Ball.  This is the block from his book Inspiring Improv.  In this photo I am playing with what colors now to grade into.  I am liking this one.

See, this cleaning and organizing this IS making me more creative.  Maybe I didn't need those little scraps....

I used up some of the random cat fabric, rather than throwing it away like Miss Hardass might suggest.  I think I know who is going to get some cat pillowcases.

One thing I did teach Christine was that you can use those boards to wrap fabric and store it neatly.  Not that I store anything neatly......

More progress photos later!

  1. Well, it's good to sort and declutter and to work on WIP. I'm wondering exactly what was your homework? Do you REALLY think she will tell you to dispose of fabric??? I think I'm not liking this lady very much, lol.

  2. It is nice to have some professional help that see things a different way.

  3. Does your organizer make follow up visits? It is one thing to organize, but a different animal entirely to change our habits enough to let that reorganized status continue on. Good luck (and good for you for working with her).

  4. Are you okay? You haven't been sharing as much and when you do not as bubbly as you were forva while. Thinking about you.
