Kaleidoscope Quilt Show

I have 4 pieces hanging in the Sassi Strippers Guild Quilt Show at the Jones Creek Library.  Please go see the show as it is a nice representation of what is being done now by traditional quilters.  There are no modern quilts in this group, which I thought interesting.  Well, one can be interpreted as Modern - a charity quilt.

I am always impressed at how wonderful quilts look when they are hanging.

My favorite quilt, outside of my own of course, is this one.  Obviously a Saints fan, this one was titled French Quarter Brees.  The free motion
quilting that interprets the wrought iron fences in the Quarter is so much fun!  I don't particularly like the pinwheels but I guess it is a play off Drew Brees name.

This is a picture of the library lobby where you can see my KerBloom! quilt hanging in the rear center.

The two hanging in the front are pinwheels and a stained glass quilt.  I like the effect of where that stained glass one hangs, it looks like it is lighted.

This fox was interesting.  I just downloaded this pattern myself other day.  It was a free pattern and I thought it might be interesting as a baby quilt for Carrie's fertile friends.

That little foxy guy is really cute and I like the off set of the background.

There were four jackets in the show, set against a wall containing numerous quilts.  The quilts on the ladder are going to be donated to charity.

That circle quilt is a nicely done piece, however I think I would have varied the circles in a more unpredictable way.  I love the colors in the quilt, they are my favorite colors!

Here are two of my quilt, KerBloom! and Jack and Gourdy Throw a Party.  They are hanging in the back of the lobby area, quite  easy to see.

The pumpkins are a Buggy Barn pattern made from shirts, not for traditional quilters!  That is a candy corn border.

My other two quilts are on the right wall of the library.

My Forest of Frozen Sorrows was made when the Retreat was cancelled due to the frozen pipes flooding the retreat center.

And Carnivale, which was done in response to a challenge to use some ugly fabric.  The ugly fabric is in the center of the circles.  Not so ugly when you put it with complimentary fabrics.

Even though the show is so much smaller than usual, it is a fun place to go see quilts hanging in a beautiful venue.

Go check out the library quilt show and vote for one of my quilts!  You have to be there in person, but if you are in Baton Rouge go check them out at the Jones Creek Library!

Several Sort Of Finishes

Just what did I get done on that list from this morning?  Well, actually less than the list but more than I thought I would.  How's that for an answer!  Oh, and Carol, I would have gotten mmore done had I not had to wait in line for multiple people to get their fabric cut.  It is tough having to spend more time than I wanted to in a quilt shop......full of fabric........with sales going on........and people who know me.............but I digress.

Ohhhh!  It looks like they have found that  plane in the Indian Ocean.  I am so glad for those people.  I hope it is.  I can't imagine the implications if it is not in that ocean.

I picked  up another Modern Robin Box from the Modern guild Meeting last night.  When I got home I took it out of the box and immediately knew exactly what needed to be done!

I got out the booklet that PattyA sent me from the class she teaches on Improvisational Piecing.  I told her she needs to send it off to a publisher!  It is good!  I easily made the next round on my piece.

Here is what it looks like.

You didn't think I was going to actually show you the colors so you could figure out which one I have, did you?

HA HA!

It looks real African in style.  Maybe it will get some giraffes in the next incarnation!  I don't think the owner of the center block thought it would go this way.  That is what makes this so much fun.

What else did I get done?

I called J & B Quilt Shop in Lafayette and ordered two more yards of the green I need for my Tea Towel Quilt.  So glad that is working out I was not sure I was going to be able to get the right color.   Now I can work on it again.

I got to the Red Stick Quilt Shop and found they were having a sale.  Oh, no!  I got my KerBloom! trimmed up and promised I would come back after lunch and bring more customers!

Ann and I had a nice lunch and hurried over to the shop to buy some sale stuff.  I got 6 yards of Moda  black!  Boy did I need that.  And 4 more yards of the sale fabric, which is still in my car and I will show you tomorrow.  I already added that to my Stash Report and with the KerBloom! finish soon it will more than balance it out.

I got the binding for KerBloom! sewed together and sewed on the quilt.  Now I can take some time to hand stitch the binding down and call it an official finish!

So this is what that list looks like:

1.  Trim KerBloom! (most likely at the Quilt Shop) which requires a road trip!
2.  Put  borders on Machine
3.  Load another quilt on the frame and begin quilting, most likely Star (need flashy name)
4.  Work on Sunshine on Water for Fiber Group
5.  Finish binding on Buggy Barn Dogs
6.  Get more green grey for Tea Towel
7.  Look at Chicken Dance to see what it needs next.  Poor thing!
 8.  Work on  Modern Robin!

I added #8 just so I could cross it off!

Free Motion Clam Shells on KerBloom!

I checked my Angela Walters book about Modern Free Motion Quilting and settled upon a clam shell pattern.  There were two reasons I made that decision.

First, I have a draw pad on my iPad and I often practice this pattern.  Thusly, I felt fairly familiar with it.  That is not to say I did not have a huge learning curve!

Second, I wanted to get comfortable with loops so I can go into feathers eventually.

I found it takes a LOT of thread.  I had not made one whole pass across the quilt and I needed to change bobbins already.  I will have to get use to that.I like the way it looks.  And the back will be  nice.

I chose that dark black green batik and with the
black thread it will be subtle but good.

I am sure that by the second or third row   I will be an expert!

I am listening to Fox News on my iPad.  I am hoping that Carrie knows where the charging cord I gave her yesterday is located.
