Grand Re-Opening of the Quilt Corner in Central

Paula and I tripped over to Central this morning for the Grand Re-Opening.  It might sound far,  but it really is not too far.  While it is not really "central" it is sort of on the "edge" of Baton Rouge.

The Quilt Corner moved across the wide parking lot to larger digs.  Tall ceilings and no walls made  the space feel HUGH!

The Mayor of Central and the Central Chamber of Commerce came to the Ribbon Cutting.   Margaret Chair, the owner, has the huge scissors and my friend Joni is running the cash register!

I didn't win anything, I got 10% off 3 fat quarters, perused some really nice fabric and spun the wheel  to win a postcard something or other.  I chose to leave it for others to take.

While I was fondling fabric, I talked to a quilting friend whose son was a policeman in Florida.  He and Deputy Brad Garafola grew up together and began their careers together at the East Baton Rouge Parish Deputy's office.  He was here to mourn his friend.

The third of the funerals was today.  Once again, the city shut down in stages as the procession moved through the neighborhoods Officer Montrell Jackson patrolled.  All three processions passed by what they are calling "End of Watch", the place where they were killed on Airline Hwy.

Tonight, over 70 restaurants will donated 25-30% of their sales to the Fallen Officers Fund and the officer's families to help them with costs.

There is still one officer fighting for his life, he was shot in the head and chest, I think he is still in a coma.  But I am not sure if it is medical or otherwise.

So sad.........what a waste of great men.

Dining With the Ducks

We had lunch at the lake with the ducks.  No idea what kind of ducks they are, but they were putting on a show trying to snag some bread or lettuce.

I got the new issue of Modern Quilts and have been hunting the panels from a new designer called gingiber.  The new line is called Thicket.  Oh, baby!  It looks like intense Zentangles in huge shapes like fox, rabbit, owls.  I will find it, eventuality!

I am heading into the quilt room to work on my police hat.  But you will be pleased to know that I got all my entries consisting of four quilts to Pam for the show.  I also brought her some small pieces that she can use to fill in spaces here and there.

I was thwarted by having to deal with the NON-delivery of the dog wash at CAAWS.  Frank took off work, I left my workshop early and Greg gave up the afternoon to wait for the scheduled delivery that never came.

And Monday is the re-opening of the Quilt Corner.  They recently moved to a new larger space.  I am interested in seeing their new digs, and maybe getting in on a few sales.  Although, my mantra is "I don't need any more fabric!"


I have been keeping tabs on a friend whose dog has had surgery this week.  It is his 4th surgery, I think.  His front leg keeps breaking.  They are hoping this last surgery will be his last.  Over the course of the week, we started talking about people who have catastrophic life situations and can no longer take care of their dogs.  Or perhaps they die and no one can take the dog.

We are going to look into putting together an organization that will be the advocate for some of these animals and people.  Providing money for your pets in your will will be a focus of education as well.

Frank and I have provided for the care of any dogs we should own in our individual wills.  

What about your animals?  What would they do if you die?

PLEASE, Consider writing a codicil to your will that will make sure they are not sent to animal control to be put down.

A Road Trp to Quilt Corner

Sounds like an idyllic village to live in, doesn't it.  It is!

Quilt Corner was once owned by a good friend of mine.  She sold it and I became friends with the new owners after a time.  And when they made the decision to become an online store, I was unhappy.  My preferred method of buying fabric is to feel it.

After a time it was sold to my new best friend, Margaret.  She became my new best friend when I bought my HandiQuilter Avante long arm last year at the Houston Show.  She is the HQ Dealer!

I finally made my first road trip to visit her.  And I saw a quilting friend Joni who works there!  Hi, Joni!

I went looking for bobbins and came home with these wonderful things.   Oh, by the way, I DID get the bobbins!  You never know!

 A tray to hold all the little things that you accumulate and NEED at hand when you are at the machine.  Ingenious!

Here  are photos of it empty and with stuff in it and how it fits on the rails.  It just sits there and easily slides if you have to move it or need to use it closer to where you are.  Ingenious!




Wheel clamps to make the machine only go left and right so you can make very straight lines. There was a big discussion on the HandiQuilter blog last week.  I knew about them, and thought they would be useful, but made no move to get any.  Now I have them.







A VersiTool Ruler to use for ruler work on the machine.  If you remember I used my Add-A-Quarter ruler on the Low Volume Bricks baby quilt for Carrie's friend.  I want to begin collecting these rulers that have various shapes for the long arm.  Joni told me that she has used a bowl and some other things.  I never thought of that!  Hmmm........

And maybe best of all, I got signed up for the TNT Class - Tension and Thread.  Boy, do I need that!
