SAQA History of Quilting Presentation

OMG!  We were so awesome!  however, I don't have any pics of myself!  I need to ask Suzi to send me some she took.

Our exhibit is located in the front corner of the Dutchtown Library through December.  The 17 pieces were placed on wire shelving and in display cases.  The exhibit looked amazing.  Then Suzi, the SAQA Regional rep gave an overview of the organization and the exhibit.

Then Joyce talked about how the knights wore quilted garments under their chain mail.  She showed a number of great examples of old quilts from her collection and those done by her grandmother.  Talking about the stitching, fabrics and sharing some personal stories, her tale unfolded.  She talked about how quilting has changed through the years.

So at a perfect segue, I picked up the tale of how the Modern Quilting movement started with Martha Stewart and Denyse Schmidt in 1998.  And the how different aspects of a quilt make it a Modern quilt.    I brought about 20 quilts to discuss and share.

Donna and Susan discussed the Art Quilting Movement.  There were displays of art quilts all around the area where people were sitting.

After the presentations people came up and talked about the quilts, looked at the quilting and fondled the minke backs of my quilts!

I had several of my SAQA and CFAL friends tell me how wonderful it was to see the Modern side of my work.  Both groups are art groups so they see me from a totally different perspective.

It was like the exhibits when we were in France for the Festival Of Quilts and the show was set up showing a whole body of work. Even the Modern Guild only sees one quilt at a time.  So it was an experience seeing multiple examples of each persons work.

Here are some photos from the day!

SAQA Regional exhibit at Dutchtown Library

I have several pieces in the Exhibit and will be presenting Modern Quilting info on Saturday Dec 7, 2019 at the Dutchtown Library.  Please come and hear the other speakers as we discuss Traditional Quilting, Art Quilting and SAQA membership.

The exhibit is called So Into Hue and is smaller pieces mounted on canvas.

The library is just off the interstate in Dutchtown on Hwy 73.  Not far at all!

Art Piece Decision

The SAQA Regional Meeting was great.  We planned a gallery show and some workshops for the group.  We are small, very small, compared to the larger metropolitan cities across the US but we are so lucky to have Suzi Stone as our Regional Rep.  She is a person who likes to make things happen.  And I can help her with that.

This group has the anility to take our art to the next level if we pay attention and do stuff.

So I know you are wondering what I decided to take with me to the SAQA Regional Meeting!

I took my 100 Meter Swim and ……….

Hang on...…..

The Nudes!  But you won't believe this...…..

Another lady brought HER nudes...…..

And can you believe I just spent half an hour trying to fix the color on the Nudes rather than get up from the warmth of the sofa and take new pics?

Sawyer left me with his whatever infection.  When I had him earlier this week he was running a fever and his ears were draining.  An he was coughing.  In anybody's face he was near.

After a while he would cough into his arm, but the learning curve was steep in that 20 month old boy.

So now I have a scratchy throat and stopped up nose.  But I am fighting it.

Tomorrow we shall see if IT wins or now.  I want to try the new MDLive our new insurance comes with.  I am sure that will be another story!

Stay warm everyone!
