Catching up

I have been catching up with the blocks that need to be tested for the Vol 4 of 100 Blocks for Quiltmaker Magazine. I can't show those to you yet, but one is so adorable it will make you want a whole quilt out if it.

I also have mailed off all my Virtual Bee Blocks for the 2 bees I participate in over at 15 Minutes Play.

And I finished the baby quilt for Frank's counterpart last night.

Since the diagnosis with Dutch, I have not had much energy to do anything but just look at my dog.  Wasn't he the cutest puppy?  He loved being on his back.  When he was about a year old, there was a big joke going around at the dog shows when someone noticed he had those zebra stripes on his private parts.  He thought they were admiring his studly attributes.  So that is when he began showing off.

Sometimes it just takes a lot of effort to do what I need to get done in a day.  But now that the quilt show is no longer my responsibility, I will have more time to get involved with the other groups.  I do the Mystery Quilt at River City each month and will bring the Christmas Bag Project to either River City or Remember Me.

Leaves nearing a tree

As you know......................

I am a member of one of the Virtual Quilting Bees over at 15 Minutes Play by Bumblebeans.

And my month to create a block with made fabric was June.

And I chose leaves that weree either  appliqued on or curve pieced on.  All tried the curved piecing and most loved it.  Some had never curve pieced before and since I pushed them to do it, they excelled!

Here are all the leaves.  I will attempt to put them together at the retreat this weekend.  I am sure I will have lots of fans and the same number of critics!  But they will give me good advice on this one.

Stick around to see how it comes out.  I am sure it will be interesting.

Memorial Day Weekend!

Take time to remember your heroes.  Without them our lives would be so much less.  I am truly thankful for the boys who go to war and to those like my own husband who serve their country even when there is no war.

We usually are by now planning a vacation to the west or northwest or far northwest (Alaska) but this year we are waiting till later in the year to head to Egypt if it is still there by then.  Cross your fingers and you will see me and Ann on a camel!  She is bound and determined to ride a camel in Egypt.  So ride a camel we shall. This camel is, believe it or not, from the Great Desert of Maine.  Yes, Maine.  A real desert with shifting sand dunes and all.
Maybe in the Spring we can go to Orlando with Carrie and Andrew.  Andrew has never been to Disney World.  Can't imagine how that escaped his parents.

I worked on some Virtual Bee blocks today and just got back from mailing them off to the United Kingdom.  That was exciting.  She wants bright and bold 9 inch blocks of made fabric.  She has an idea to make them into mice.  I can't wait to see it!

Here are my contributions to MICE!

Leaf Me Alone!

June is my month for the virtual bee over at BumbleBeans' 15 Minute Play.  I love all the blocks I have made so far for the others in the Virtual Bee there.  And I knew I would have to think outside the box to get something equally spectacular for my month.

I decided on leaves.

But that necessitated giving some instructions on curved piecing.

So if you want to see the technique I used, hop on over to http://www.15minutesplay.com/2011/05/june-scrap-bee-block-from-glen.html
