Print to Fabric Class

Took a class at the Livingston Arts Council today and had a great time learning with 11 other ladies.  I miss having classes with Michael, he was always one of the few guys in quilting and fiber art, so he was a well known figure.  He moved to San Antonio to be near his son after Judy died.  I think a lot of people miss him.

But I digress.

The class was taught by Judy Momenzadeh who has been in a number of the Fiber Art magazines and has recently won a nice ribbon in Houston last November.  She is very creative, very inventive and very willing to try anything!

She went over the techniques she used to create her pieces and had a nice selection of things to show us from her collection.  She even sold a piece in the class!

We worked in Photoshop and a few other programs that are either add ons or separate ones.

She also had some things like digital grounds and fabric treatments that enhance the printing process.

After lunch she had prepared two photos from us; one on fabric and one on watercolor paper.  We used Inktense Pencils and Neocolors Wax Crayons to "paint" the pictures.

Of  course I left both of mine at the Art Council......geez.  But I had this extra one somehow.  So when I got home, I showed Frank how to use the NeoColors.  He has done some watercolor in the way way past and likes it.  He was amazed at how they looked  on the watercolor paper.  He liked it!

Here is the pic we worked on together tonight.  Just using all the crayons in the pack!

Friday Off the Wall Delayed a Bit

I spent the morning doing bathrooms and cleaning the cat box in preparation for new litter.  It is amazing how long it takes.  I have always had a housekeeper and doing it myself is a drag.  I loved my housekeeper, she did such a wonderful job and was like a member of my family.  When she retired I just didn't want anyone else in there.

I have to tell PattyA about our trip to Los Angeles, CA.  I still chuckle when I see the type of painting that Rothko does.  Our trip to the museum was to see the Klimt paintings recently brought back to the US from German bondage.   Carrie was with us, it was our last vacation as a family with her before she went off to college and life on her own.  Carrie, of course, is very modern, very contemporary and very much an artist.  She does beautiful work.  I will have to show you some of them some time.

So.

We are in the  Museum of Modern/Contemporary Art or some such name, and I saw this huge canvas painted red with a thin thin thin line of khaki color running through it.  I said to her, I could do that.  She got all fluffled up and informed me that there was no way I could do that, there was so much more that went into a painting then I ever knew and it was an incredible work of art.

OK.

So the next few paintings were looked at, and there was a huge canvas with a series of thin thin thin white lines running through it.  Not learning my lesson, I said, hey, I could do that one too!  When I was set upon again by the girl, telling me how it is painstaking to mix the correct paint, to know what color to put where, to understand art so deeply that one thin line moves the artist to another dimension and saves the world from nuclear warfare and brings peace forever and ever.

OK.

We went into the next room where there was a reclining figure of a woman birthing infants from her underarms.

I didn't say a word.............

PS - the Klimts were amazing and I want to make a quilt out of one of them one day.

Working on Quilts Tonight (strike that)

We generally have a Friday night dinner with friends as regular as clockwork.  But for some reason we have nothing set up.  I was vacillating back and forth about contacting someone and just spending a night at home alone!  And I think the night alone won!  Cali the Cat is unimpressed at this news.

Dutch, however, is ecstatic!  He and the Flat Duck are very excited that they will have company tonight.  Chloe is just concerned about her next meal.  She is checking out the ingredients to see if they include some of that chicken from last night.......maybe.
I do have leftover chicken to finish for OUR dinner.  So it will be a quickie meal.  And Frank is outside washing down the back porch in preparation for painting tomorrow.  See him over here giving orders?  He is saying, go get me thing, go do that, bring this over to me.  I will have to listen to him tomorrow, but not today!  I spent the morning with my Alzheimer mom, so she is happy..  And the dogs have food in their bins and bones in the bone box.  So all is right with the world.

But tonight I am free.  I think I will sew!  I will post the product of that night of sewing here as I go along.  But now let me get the doglets fed and the chicken heated.  Later gator!

Post Script 1:  Best laid plans of mice and men........no quilting got done tonight.  Spent an inordinate amount of time at Lowe's looking at a storm door, shutters, paint brushes, VOC paint and a sponge on a handle to make washing the wood down first easier.  aughhhh!
