Carrie called, needing two pumpkins for a pumpkin carving party among friends. Andrew carves pumpkins! Who knew?







So we went to the best place I know to get pumpkins.  These are church pumpkins.  And not cheap, but they are all beautifully shaped and perfect.  I guess if you are a god you get the best ones first!

This is the $8 hallowed orb that chose me.  It should make some sweet pumpkin pies!

No dogs were allowed to visit this pumpkin patch  but they all investigated the pumpin I  brought home.  McGee immediately claimed it as his own and DiNozzo was not too happy about that......MoooooooooM!

Jack and Gourdy Throw a Party!

That may well be the name of the pumpkin quilt!  How fun it sounds, a party!  Jack and Gourdy!  They sound like really wild and crazy guys.....remember Steve Martin, now HE was a wild and crazy guy.

Here are the pumpkin blocks as they stood for the last two years.  Hey Mary, where are yours?



Here is the candy corn border.  You know, my battery was fading fast and it cut out as I snapped this picture.  I was not sure I had gotten it, and actually, I didn't......LOL

(pause for battery charge.......)

And here is the inner border and the candy corn border on.  Love this quilt. If you look back at the blocks, they look dull.  But the candy corn brightness brings out the light in the faces.  I am pleased with it.

Jack and Gourdy are certainly in good company, with their wide grins and shining faces.  And all the candy corn you can eat!  I wonder if I can come up with names for all of them?

I will audition outer borders tomorrow.  I have some purples, but not a lot so it would have to be a scrappy purple border.  I could do a great orange border, I have a ton of oranges for some reason.

I finally broke down and purchased a yard of a dark purple for the border.  I wish I had some cording to make some orange piping to place between the candy corn and the outer border.

I may wait until tomorrow to work any more on Jack and Gourdy and see about getting some cording.  And then again, it may not matter..........

Which one do you like better?

Design Wall Monday 3-04-11

Well here it is, mid-March already.  We had a glorious weekend here in South Louisiana, we take 'em when we get 'em cause they are hot in the summer!  We rode bikes yesterday but on Friday and Saturday I sewed and sewed and sewed all day long......both days!

And it was heaven!

I accomplished 9 pumpkins!  It is never too early to start a Halloween Quilt!  Two of my best quilting buds, Norma and Paula, also made 9 pumpkins.  And with Mary's 9 that makes 36 pumpkins in this world where there were none before! The blocks are 14.5 x 12.5 so they are pretty good sized.

Here are my pumpkins playing nicely with Mary's pumpkins.  They need their candy corn border now.  And we want to have a big flourish at one of the quilt meetings by showing them all at once!The background is really purple but it sort of shows up as blue in my photos.  Marys are the four top and the right side.  Mine are the cute ones.

Oh, this is a Buggy Barn Pattern and I love the Buggy Barn method of slicing then re-sewing.  But be cautioned......it is not for someone who obsesses about precision sewing.  Read my last post about that!
