The Daily Bird - Catch-Up Birds

Lynne can sleep at night again, I have caught up with my birds.

 Yesterday we went to the Houmas House Plantation for their Holiday Brass concert of Christmas Carols.  The grounds are so beautiful, if you come see me we can all go and walk in the gardens and tour the house.


Right now it is all decorated for Christmas, as you would expect.

This is Maggie, the Plantation Dog.  At one point during the concert Maggie jumped on stage with the orchestra and they all freaked out.  It was very amusing!

Here they are in a non-dog moment.  

I liked this shadow on the brick wall.  The ghost harpist was playing that night!

We went with Carrie and Andrew, who at the last minute, wisely left the baby at home.

We followed the concert with dinner at Little Village, a beautiful restaurant along the highway.  


There was also a Cotillion there that night.  A friend adopted two beautiful Asian girls (they get photos at Santa CAAWS every year since they became a family) who were in the soiree.

Since it was a Christmas event, I made a Christmas Bird before I left.  ( I was actually waiting for Frank to finish getting beautiful.) He is aptly named Noel and is larger than most of the other birds.  I guess he wanted to stand out and above everyone!

And tonight, since I was faced with making TWO more bird, this guy was hatched.

Ah, drudgery.  Lynne is a veritable slave driver.  I still needed another bird.

So this guy flew in to join the party.  

 

 And in case you thought I was trying to fool you by showing you the same bird.

Twins.  Experienced in carpentry, you can see they sport a wood grain chest. 

Here is everybody hanging out on the design wall.  They are sharing it with the green quilt, that is slowly getting squared up and sewn into sections.

And the poor birds would have more space to spread their wings if I would just clean off that side of the design wall............

OMG!  I just counted 10...........well you know what I'll be doing tomorrow.

In the Interest of Full Disclosure

I the interest of full disclosure I have the following numbers:

4 that need binding
8 that need quilting then binding

.....and now a Red/White/Blue quilt for Cousin Karen that will need to  be finished to a top and then a backing found and quilting done and binding......whew!

And........

Alll the others on the sidebar list that need finishing in some way or other.

And you know what?  I have not done a thing in the sewing room yesterday or today.  Not a thing.

I have been dealing with CAAWS, Frank, and finding where they keep the blizzards at Dairy Queen.

Today, for example, I researched/priced/negotiated/and ordered a cage bank for the Cat Room.  This will clean up a trashy corner of their Cat Room and help them look more professional and adoptable when visitors come to look at cats.

The pictures are pre-construction and during construction.  yes, I had two construction sites i was managing at one time!  Can you say "bang your head on the wall"?

Our cats roam free in the room, but when fosters bring the off site cats in for Adoption Day they need to be separated from the territorial in house herd.  Cats can be pretty snarky with the occasional short term cat visitor and we don't need that display.

They need to look cute and cuddly, not mean and frightening!

Baby Triangles Quilted

Happy 4th of July!
 
This is a holiday I love.  Our Founding Fathers really didn't sign all at once on July 4th, and didn't even sign all in 1776.  That was the drawback of not having air travel and fast cars to get everyone together all at once.

My father loved to tell stories about all the protocol of Congress and stories of the patriots of old.  Those were some of the happy memories of being with him.  He was not always like that.  But I did learn a lot, and developed my political views from a lot of what he talked about.

Backs on Frame

I spent the afternoon working on the Twin Boy and the accompanying Twin Girl Triangles quilts.  Like true twins, I put them on the longarm together and ran long lines of stitching across both at the same time.

And two for one in the time frame, nearly.  Economy of scale.  I decided after looking at them, the boy quilt needs light grey binding and the girl quilt needs the darker grey binding.
