Design Wall Monday At Small Quilts

A quick note to join in with Design Wall Monday.

I am working on that Hot Hot Hot Love Bird Pair.

I have committed myself to do a Bird-A-Day in December and give them stories to  tell.  This weekend was so busy that I am now behind at 14 finished, but the two Hot Hot Hot Love Birds will help catch up quickly.

Design Wall Monday 10-13-14

I need to finish my Seuss 2 Quilt and get it on the long arm frame for quilting.   It was laid out on the floor, I am still working out issues with it.  Frank walked in and said how much he liked it and wanted to know  how it would look with the spikey things all around.  He loved it.  So now I am once again thinking of adding them all around.  I just need to do something with it!  You know? 

I trimmed the Lorax quilt and cut the stripes for the binding and just need to get that on and it will be done.  That one I love.  And it is nearly done.  Yes!


I have some leftover fabric I want to make a bag and maybe a diaper stacker.  Definitely the  bag.

In other things I have a Fabric group meeting on Wednesday night and the project is "A Turn of a Phrase".  I know what I want to do but finding the time will be difficult. 

Ann's mother is in the hospital and I need to be available to help when I can.  I was heading up there today but the schedules got changed.  I am hoping she is doing better and will be home soon.

I am in the planning stages of a pair of quilts for the new bed set up.  I  decided rather than one large quilt, that I would make two long quilts that are  narrow enough to fit on each side.  Maybe split the design between the two so they fit together!

I made that decision because Frank is always taking my portion of the blanket or quilt and sleeping with two on the new bed has been wonderful.  Why didn't I think of that sooner?  Duh! 

Last night he was dreaming he was a centaur in Lilliput and fighting a bad guy.  He began kicking me with his hooves and when I reached over to wake him he started fighting me with his arms.  It is more dangerous in the night than in the day! 

Design Wall Monday - june 9-14

Not much to show since we have been in Alaska for the last two weeks.   but I have  bunch of stuff to finish in the next week.  Shall I list them?

1.  Modern block lotto
2.  LA Traveling Quilt round
3.  finish up the Cotton Robin and get that sent off
4.  add some binding to two quilts so I can sew binding when I am recuperating.
5.  Cut out many hexies so I can coerce Paula to show me how to EPP.

Mayve that last one wont happen, but I can be hopeful.  I want to do a bunch of flowers, the 5 hexiess together.  I follow one of the blog who does One flower Wednesday and I just love her flowers.  then she put them all together with a white connetor hexie.  Love it

We went to the Aquarium in Seattle.  And it is a wonderful place, go if you get a chane to be in Seattle.  I rate it as one of the best ones I have been to.

Design Wall Monday 5-12-14

A quick post.

I am working on several things now, deadlines you know!

I have the Michael Miller Challenge but I can't show you that.  It will be displayed in July I believe.  I have about 3/4 of the blocks made but what will make this quilt great will be the quilting.  I have an idea that will blow your minds!

I have the Fiber Group's May Project.  Make a block out of something not normal.  I know what i want to do  but have not even sat down to do it.

I have the Lotto block from the Modern Group.  Curves. I had to think of a really innovative way to interpret curves.  Not that many ways so I am sure some will be duplicated.  I must be original.

And I have the spools that are going together and I have the cows to put on the  frame.  I am just going to do a simple swirl since it will be off the frame rather quickly.

AND (is this not enough???) I need to make some words for the Flight 370 Quilt.

I think I am going to have to get really busy this week to get it all done.  especially since last week got nothing done! LOL!

Design Wall 4-28-14 - Quilt Patterns in the Sidewalk Even!

I have a project on my design wall that I cannot show you.  I can, however, tell you what fabric I am using to make it.  It is my piece for the Michael Miller Modern Challenge.

I have a wonderful idea for the piece; it doesn't have to be a quilt, but it must be quilted.   I have been hard at work on it this weekend. 

I am also poised on the very edge of a finish.  The Star quilt has the binding on and it just needs to be sewn down.  I will do that this week nights.

We spent some time downtown avoiding the Earth Day Celebration and the stages that held live bands.  I really don't put that much stock into global warming claims and we were pretty sure they were going to try ot convince people it is real. 

Instead we stopped at Hound Dog's and met some friends; don't you love this face?  It covers the whole wall.





I did photograph some flowers in various places in town.  And we went to a new park on Constitution that was built to honor Victory Park that once stood on that spot in the 1800's.  I have never seen SnapDragons open like the ones on the right.  It must be a new strain of Snap. 

This is the view of the State Capitol  Building from the Pentagon Barracks.  The Barracks, in the shape of a pentagon, were the first place classes were held as what would become LSU.

We do a lot of biking up in this area.   Without the politicians on the weekend, the streets are pretty clear and open. 

This was imbedded in the walkway at the Victory Park.  It looks like it should  be a quilt. 

And these flowers were actually a very very very dark pink, they look washed out here because there was no sun at the moment and the flash changed the color. 

Monday Design Wall 4-21-14

I am making houses.  Lots of houses.  And I will send them on to the Louisiana Traveling Quilt Group.  LTQ.  Hmm.  Sounds like a penal colony on Mars or Jupiter. 

Lunar re-Training Quadrant has off Earth branches in select outer space locations.  Inmates, uh....residents, leave the facility with a totally new outlook.  

So, here are my houses.  Maybe I need a space station house!

I will work on making more houses this week and getting the Star quilt finished.

hey, does anyone know of some good videos on ruler work? I need an easier or better way of doing it.

Design Wall Monday 4-7-14

I need to go to the quilt shop or somewhere there is a large table so I can trim the edges on KerBoom!  Once I get it trimmed up I can put the binding on and it will be

FINISHED!

And  there are another few things that need to be trimmed and the binding worked on.  Actually there are three I believe.  I need to get working on my OPAM finishes for the new month.  

My project for the Fiber Group next week (Sunshine on the Water) needs to be sandwiched and beaded........Might as well use the newly acquired knowledge!  

I will show you some of the beading when I get started on it.

I  will connect to Judy's Design Wall when she gets it fixed.  She set it for 8 PM rather than to go live this morning.

Another Judy, Judy Momenzada, told me that one of my pieces
hangs in their booth  when they set up a show as a vendor.  It is my hummingbird piece from one of her patterns.

Not this one!  LOL.  I still can't get to most of my stuff due to the Great Router Disaster but this is a nice nude that begs to be done in fabric!  (I added the in fabric when I re read the line.  She is not begging to be done, but the king might be begging!)

 

Design Wall 3-24-14

My design wall remains the same as last week since I was at death's door with these allergies that turned into a horrible chest cold.  I am slowly getting better, I believe now I will not die at this time.  Although it was doubtful on Friday and Saturday if I would survive the weekend.

After I posted my Stash Report I went online to look for backings for two of the quilts I want to finish.  I have lots and lots of fabric, but not large yardages.  And certainly not in the colors I needed for the Machine or for KerBloom.

KerBloom was the one I picked up at the International Quilt Show in Houston in 2012 and put together on the retreat in 2013.  The fabric is large sweeping blooms from Stephanie Brandenburg of Frond Designs.  All her stuff drew me in with its deep rich colors and large splashes of design.  In the KerBloom quilt she has you cut the panels into 4 section, which seems sacrilegious to do if you have ever seen these beauties. 

See those jeans are black, I wonder where they are now?  I cannot find them anywhere.   But I digress.

Risking the broken record syndrome, this week I need to put the borders on the Machine and work on Japanese Magnolias and maybe another baby quilt for Carrie's friend.

Oh, the kid's moved their furniture into storage, but are staying in the house until Wed when they go to the act of sale.  Then they will most likely be here until his momma gets her room redone.  And then stay there during the weekend and here during the week.  Confusing, you say?  Yes, and I am living it!!!!!

Design Wall Monday 3-10-14 - My gawd, dawlin', ya gotta be crazy!!!!!

I have been having a deal with this computer and the Photoshop Elements program I bought.  I sure hope Tracy is not having these problems!  Of course when I took it to Andrew on Saturday morning, he opened it right up.  Like the car with a horrible noise going to the mechanic!

I have so many things to catch up with, the bloc for the Modern Robin, the block for a modern swap with grey, a new Matisse for the series I want to do, and a new fiber project with some photos that Dee sent me this l weekend.

The Chicken Dance is still on the long arm, I just can't seem to get time when the dogs are not needing supervision.  And here it is another week and I missed a lot of opportunities over the weekend by running the roads with Frank.

So on my Design Wall is the Machine guilt that needs borders, something very simple!  This is Handmade by V and Co.  The fabric is an aqua teal ombre that gives the most wonderful shading.   ut you know what?  That is 390 HSTs!

desiggn wall monday 3-3-14

Just having returned from retreat yesterday, I am still taking things out of my bags.

I plan on working on finishing up things from the retreat.  I completed a huge single star quilt that will go on the frame as soon as Chicken Dance comes off.

The rest of the week is up in the  air, I have several deadlines looming with other projects, though.

New Project Working - Design Wall Monday

I couldn't stand it any more.  I had to start a new project quilt.  This time I am planning to work it all the way to the quilting.

Monday Design Wall 9-23-13

I am at the doctor's office while you read this.  But I have some things to share from the weekend.

The Cardinal males are deepening in color as they mature. He still has some of his juvenile color hanging in there.  Every once in a while I find a nice color feather from these guys to add to my collection.

I have pineapple vinegar brewing on my counter top.  Frank is not happy.  But I am working on Christmas things.  Apple preserves and pineapple vinegar sound wonderful, don't they?

And I want to finish my leaves started in the Cynthia Ragoni class last weekend.  I have 33 plus 24 done and the rest of the papers have been sewn.  Not sure how many that will be but I will end up with that silly odd number I can't figure out.  each paper makes two leaves, and I end up with an odd number somehow.  So far no sign of it in McGee's piles.

And I did finish my Self Portrait for the Fiber Group.  One of our members, Judy Momemzadah has a piece that was accepted into Passages in Quilting Arts, check it out.  It is the Mississippi River Bridge here in Baton Rouge.  Yeah Judy!

 I started a few new rusting pieces with the rebar I found at home Depot.  The guy stared at me like I was nuts when i asked him what was the rustiest thing in the store?  This one is rusted and then tea dyed.  Turns grey.  Yes, really. Don't you just love my sexy shoes?  I wear them when I want to impress people and show them I still got it, if on in my shoes.

We rode to Rotolo's on Sunday and had Four Cheese Calzones.  One calzone with four cheeses, ok?  It was our first "cool" (read 79) day of the summer/fall part of the year.  We had 4 inches of rain that brought the front through yesterday. After lunch we finished up with a 5.2 mile ride through the ponds.  Someone must have tossed this big guy in there because I don't think he was put there by the groundsmen!

Design Wall Monday 9-15-13

I have not had a design wall Monday for a very long time.  It has been a combination of things: health, pain management and just overwhelming stuff.  but I am back on track.

I missed you all!  Really I did!  Oh....I will be in Halifax, Canada soon, and would love to go to a quilt shop there.  Do you know of a place I can run my fingers through fabrics?

This week I am working on my Self Portrait that is due on Wednesday.  I also have been challenged to use the Franklin Glove Incident as a Self Portrait.  LOL.  Check that one out here if you missed it!

So when I am able to FIND my self portrait that I was working on, I will shoot a pic to you.  It is buried under something that I cleaned up around in my zeal to get a surface I could work on.  Sort of self defeating, huh?

But in other news.......I have been playing with Rusty Things.  and it is really cool.

Here is my Over Rusted FQ.  It started out as a white PFD and has already undergone one rusting.  The pieces were interesting but small, so I over-rusted it a second time.  I didn't realize it would overtake the first rusting so much.  Some of my favorite spots are gone.

Design Wall 5-20-13

My eye is better!  Way better!  No one is freaking out and running screaming anymore!

Since the tile for the second wave of the house will be starting this morning, I will not have access to that "wing" of the house.  That includes the sewing room (booo!) and the kitchen (yeah!).

And the TV.......aughhhhhh!  The only one that has the channel info from the cable company, the others I have to guess.  And all my shows are programmed in and I have no idea what is on when on what day!

So in honor of my new floors, I went to Mia's shop and bought the Chevrons and Dots that her "mice" had on sale.  You know, while the cat's away, the mice will play!  Anita (Mia) is at Quilt Market in Seattle this week!  So her worker people put different stuff on sale every day.

This is my haul:

Nine pieces in all.  I am thinking the squedges maybe!

I know that last little one doesn't go with anything, but I absolutely positively had to have it!
