Design Wall 3-24-14

My design wall remains the same as last week since I was at death's door with these allergies that turned into a horrible chest cold.  I am slowly getting better, I believe now I will not die at this time.  Although it was doubtful on Friday and Saturday if I would survive the weekend.

After I posted my Stash Report I went online to look for backings for two of the quilts I want to finish.  I have lots and lots of fabric, but not large yardages.  And certainly not in the colors I needed for the Machine or for KerBloom.

KerBloom was the one I picked up at the International Quilt Show in Houston in 2012 and put together on the retreat in 2013.  The fabric is large sweeping blooms from Stephanie Brandenburg of Frond Designs.  All her stuff drew me in with its deep rich colors and large splashes of design.  In the KerBloom quilt she has you cut the panels into 4 section, which seems sacrilegious to do if you have ever seen these beauties.

See those jeans are black, I wonder where they are now?  I cannot find them anywhere.   But I digress.

Risking the broken record syndrome, this week I need to put the borders on the Machine and work on Japanese Magnolias and maybe another baby quilt for Carrie's friend.

Oh, the kid's moved their furniture into storage, but are staying in the house until Wed when they go to the act of sale.  Then they will most likely be here until his momma gets her room redone.  And then stay there during the weekend and here during the week.  Confusing, you say?  Yes, and I am living it!!!!!

Design Wall 8-12-13

Today is our actual anniversary.  41 years.  Can you believe I am that old?  I can't.

I went to a Contemporary Fiber Artists of Louisiana (CFAL) meeting yesterday and got inspired.  There are some fabulous fabric artists in this group.  One works with recycled garments; another with her own dyes; another with bits of things woven into her pieces; another with books.

One announced that she has 4 pieces accepted into various parts of the Houston Intn'l Quilt Show this year.  I rub elbows with greatness.......full of themselves, but greatness nonetheless.

This week, my measly self will work on figuring out how to quilt the 5 pieces that came home with me from the retreat a few weeks ago.  I have another retreat at the end of this month.  I am going to see what I need to finish and start compiling stuff.  Grouping, any way.  Grouping things that need to be finished that I can work on there and get done.

I need to get some grey for the Taking Names quilt to finish up those sides.  Rest assured, it is actaully even, but my angle is not.

Last time I was in the Felicianas at the retreat, I did the Ker Bloom. Remember that?  Maybe I will actually get that quilted soon!

I hope you have a great week.  Mine will be busy once again!  I am going to get over to see Charlene since I miss that face!  Monday, hopefully.  If it doesn't rain on my parade!

Home is the Retreater, Home From the Hills

And exhausted!  Ann and I roomed together in a kid's camp room.  Bare bones with bunk beds!  LOL.  Everything I moved on the bed, it sounded like the next room in a sleazy hotel.  The place is about a 2700 years old and full of molds and sweaty boys leftovers.  But it is set in the beautiful piney forests of mid-Louisiana with its rolling hills and clear air.

On Saturday morning three of us walked down the road about a mile or so and came across a waterfall, OK  it was the rill tributary running under the road and over some concrete pieces about  6 inches and it sounded nice like a waterfall.

On the way up there, my GPS voice was so low that I was 3 exits past before I realized I was not hearing it.  So I got off in the middle of Scotlandville, which is a really bad place, and had to pull over to fix it.  But somehow I set it to LOCK and had to drive with the stupid thing to my ear the whole rest of the way.

And once I got headed in the right direction, albeit from the north rather than the south side, I stopped at Burger King to grab something for lunch.  I ended up knocking my Dr. Pepper into the center console and now it is so sticky the pens and pennies are permanently adhered!  Still can't figure out how to change the Lock setting on the GPS thing.

I arrived early Friday like about 10 AM and settled in the Lakeview Room since we had such a large crowd of about 22 ladies.  I immediately set to sewing the binding on Maylee's quilt.  Then I played around with a binding tool that came with my new sewing machine and put the binding on the doll quilt.  With a little practice it is the way to go, I am telling you!

Then I did some odd pieces that have been sitting around and needed only a few things done for completion.  On Saturday I set to work on Ker Bloom! a Stephanie Brandenburg quilt.  She is a painter, and it shows in the fabrics she designs.  You can see her work at Fern Hill Quilts online.  I spent all three days in Houston in her booth and bought something every day!

That bad weather that hit Mississippi was coming through and everyone was trying to leave early on Sunday to avoid being on the road when it hit.  Ann left earlier than me by about 20 minutes and I arrived home at noon for lunch with Frank, who was just as cranky as when I left him.

We stopped every once in a while and stretched.  That kept us from getting stiff and keeling over.  Breathe ladies!

And here is my Ker Bloom!  Yes!
