Just How Many Dog Beds Do You Own?

I have spent all day cleaning.  The guest list for tomorrow keeps exploding.  We will certainly have a chance to test how the house and dogs handle a ton of people!   Tomorrow morning I will put the dinner together.  for those of you outside Louisiana, that means lunch. 

I finally got that corner of my bedroom cleared out and organized for Sawyer's stuff. 

The two biggest time taking tasks?


I got the vacuum cleaner out and moved all the furniture away from the walls and vacuumed up all the dog hair that clings to the baseboards.  The Roomba actually does a good job getting the wall clingers, but some of it hangs on to the underside of the furniture.  I purposefully bought furniture that has a high clearance so the Roomba can go underneath.  All gone now.

And I spent the whole day washing and drying dog beds. 


One does not really know how many dog beds one owns until one decides to wash ALL the dog beds in one day.  I have already washed, dried and put back together the first four dog beds!

It sure does look like something exploded, doesn't it?

Sewing for the Dogs

Certainly you have seen that Pinterest photo:



Well, this seems to happen a lot to beds that McGee sits on.

When I run the Roomba, I move the dog beds to the sofa.  It was perfectly fine.

When I looked at him yesterday afternoon, the foam center was showing.

Huh?  And he happened to be on it at the time.

So I decided to replace the cover since it is a bed that Chloe likes a lot.  And the darn thing was not cheap.  Why are dog beds so expensive?

When I got to taking it apart, I decided to just replace the bottom portion.  In McGee's defense, it did seem to rip easily.  But, hey.  McGee was on it.  You know.

He is the one who cannot have a crate pad in his crate because they are prone to exploding as well.

You can see why this fabric was 50 cents a yard.  LOL   Great for dog beds since it is just mis-pinted on that one line.



It is now in the washer getting washed before it goes back on the foam pad.

And here is DiNozzo modeling the Hoodie I made for GrandDog Hugeaux.  He wears one when he dines here at my house.  But at home, Carrie has to clean his ear hair after he eats.

It is technically called a Snood.  And McGee and DiNozzo each have their own Hoodie when they eat.  But try to put one on Chloe, you might get yourself bitten!  She does not cater to that!

I think it makes a nice preppy statement for an up and coming Spaniel.

More Paperweights and a Dog Bed

This week is the week that the National Specialty for the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog Club is being held.  The girl who got my duffle bag in the raffle had her dog win the Ambassador of the Breed Award, which is quite impressive to say the least.  Her dog Whisper has about 15 different titles and is really an incredible girl.  Chris, herself, is a wonderful dog trainer.  Both really deserve this honor.  I am glad for them.  And I wish I were there!

I did get 3 full circles done and 6 half circles for the edges are complete as well.  I also sewed the remaining kites, although I will have to un-sew several to use the halves for the edges as well.  I can still move the majority of the circles around.  I do "test" them in different places.  And I also have about 4 more sets I can make to replace the ones I don't like.  Or if I want them all I can add an additional row and make it wider.  We shall see.

You can see how large the quilt will be, of course it will draw up some because of the seams yet to be sewn, but there is DiNozzo sleeping on one of his 200 or so dog beds scattered about the house.

That dog bed, let me tell you, is wonderful.  I used two old bed pillow to stuff it. I bought one of those oversized bath towels, like a beach towel size.  Folded it in half and sewed the two sides up.  I put velcro on the open side.

I made two of the covers so I could take it off, wash it and have one clean to go on the pillows.  Cheap and easy.  The Swissys were too big for the beds but they loved to hang over the edges on them anyway.  The bassets fit beautifully and Hugeaux the Grand-Dog Cavalier all  fit nicely.

You can probably find old pillows at the resale shops to get a really cheap and good dog bed!

I am dying to see Charlene's paperweights.  She is using a jelly roll and it will be different from mine.  But I am sure it will be incredible!
