Pink Squares

You have to go to Kokaquilts and see my Wolf!  Julie  and Linda are featuring me in their blogpost for Sew, Stitch, Snap and Share.

And of course I am linking up with them for this week's Share.

 Pink is done!!

Simple meander.  Not complicated.  This is just a quilt that is made to be used and loved.

It is for Kaitlyn. Sweet Kaitlyn.  She is going to love it!

Carol of Quilted Fabric Art told me about an online class by Anglela Walters doing Free motion Quilting.   The FreeMotion Challenge.

I decided to sign up with her.

The first week is echo quilting and meander.

Hey, got this meander thing down, so I decided to kick it up a notch.

I made a circle for the meander quilting.  The circle acted like the echo quilting.

I added lines to the rest of it.  The piece is a charity quilt and I didn't want to spend a whole lot of time or effort on it.

Here is the whole picture.  I trimmed it after I took the photo.

I made several bubbles.  I guess that will be the name, Bubbles.

The back is a random piece I pulled, boy like.

And once again, I need to do the binding on both the pink and the bubbles.

One Monthly Goal - December 2017

                   1.  Quilt at least one top (Sawyers Quilt?)
                    2.  Get at least one binding done (triangles or Improv Stripes)
                    3.  Doorways piece for Fiber Group (due Dec 14)
4,  Finish One Road Thru Town
                    5.  Quilt Pink Quilt for Kaitlyn
                    6.  Quilt the Blue Squares for Malachi

It is time for setting December Goals for the One Monthly Goal.....although mine might be the MMG.....More Monthly Goals! Click on the link above and you will be taken to a land of wonder and fun!

I have set 6 goals, but I will shoot to finish any 4.  They are all things I really want (or need) to work on.

1.  I have had Sawyer's Quilt finished for a while now.  It got moved to the Long Arm Room and it did not get quilted. So I moved it to hang over the frame bars.  And it still did not get quilted.  Now i moved it to this list!

2.  I have both the Triangles and the Improv Stripes quilted (last month's OMG) and they are ready for binding.  I am hoping to get both done actually.

3.  I have to get that Doorways piece done...........just do it.  Carol of Quilted fabric art gave me an idea that was pretty cool, so at least now I have an idea.

Pink Front
4.  I need to put the backing on One Road and it will be done.  I just need to figure out how I want to hang it for the show.

Pink backing
5 and 6.  I decided to send two quilts to my nephew's kids in Washington State.  Pink is finished and Blue is finished so they can be quilted with a quick pattern and given a binding.  And sent off to Washington.

I guess I need to tackle 5 and 6 first!

And I bought a really good iron to replace the one I bought to replace the one that leaks all over the darned place.  a Rowenta.  I like this one a lot better.  It still turns off, but the setting dial stays on hot.  And it takes like 8 minutes before it turns off.

I am happier!

Pink!

Patty the Quilt Lady has been using up her pinks.  I decided I needed to make a couple of quilts for my nephew's kids.  A boy and a girl.  Yes, I decided on pink.

So I cut some strips with the idea of making a herringbone, but at the last minute I decided I would just lay it out in squares since I didn't have large pieces.  I ended up pulling fabric from my stash, which is fine, I need to use it all anyway, right?

I am working on piecing the back together and pulling some larger pieces.  I had to stop and wait for a new iron.

The iron I bought 3 years ago on QVC was leaking.  The leak has been growing in intensity and yesterday afternoon it was almost coming out as fast as I was adding it in!  So we went to Walmart to snag a new one.

Today I found that I hate the iron we bought.  It has an auto turn off, you can't find one that doesn't these days.   But the temp control jump to the lowest setting.  Which meant that I had to click the button 6 times to get it back up to the cotton setting.

No way am I doing that for the rest of my life.  I should never have let Frank choose it, even though I told him I wanted to make sure we got one with a dial rather than the electric grid.  He went for the cheapest one.......$24.95.

Can you say.........new iron?

Flower Girl is a Top!

I worked all day long on the top while I was waiting for Paula to swing by.  She wanted to see the Red Snappers I use to load my quilts on the long arm.

The Red Snappers take a couple of times to get 100% comfortable with, but I love the ability to make changes without taking out a million pins.  And more so, not getting stuck by the pins and bleeding all over the quilts.

Although my grandmother would say that if you bled on something you were making for someone, they were going to fall in love with it.  And who doesn't love my quilts?  LOL.

And the plus is that it takes less than a quarter of the time to load a quilt.  Paula says it can take her over an hour to set up.  It takes me 15 minutes, maybe 20 or 25 if I have set up the first section off kilter. I really don't do more than a cursory trim on my tops and backings.  Unless I am doing a straight line, then I spend a bit more time getting things straight.

Back to the Flower Girl piece.  I wanted to tie the same color squares together so I added a center.  I thought about adding little squares in the sashing between the blocks, but decided that it would not achieve the desired effect of pulling the four squares together.

It measures 47 x 47.  And I am debating on a 2 inch border all around, or not.  So far, not.

I really is not anything fancy, but I know these people will just love this quilt.  They are excited about the first baby, their business is doing well.  They are legal immigrants from Viet Nam and working toward their citizenship and future in the right way.
