Design Wall Monday 3-7-11

Well, I finally have something new on my wall.  This is a challenge quilt for a group here called The Giving Quilt.  They collect quilts during the year from quilters in the area who want to donate quilts or fabric.  Once a year in the Spring, they coordinate a quilt show with all these quilts.  They arrange for representatives of the various charities to be there to receive the quilts in front of the media.  You can name where you want your quilt to go or they can decide.  And they are a 501(c)3 organization so your time and materials are tax deductible.  It works out wonderfully for everyone!

This year the Remember Me Guild held a block challenge and gave out prizes for Viewer's Choice.  Then we got to choose a different block and make a quilt around that.  There will be more prizes.

My block received an Honorable Mention.  The block I chose is the bright star in the center of the quilt.  It includes the black area and the dark pink and the yellow.  The hearts are my first border.  And I am using scrap pieces from my stash.

I like it so far, but I am thinking I wish I had put a very small green border between the yellow piano keys and the b/w strip.  Like a one inch or even a flange.  But I am not ripping.

It is straight but for some reason the fan is blowing the borders up and making it look not so straight.

The quilt has the potential to place in the next level because the block is from the girl who wins every blasted contest in that guild.  It is a clique.  Hey, I chose wisely!  I figure her quilt will get first place and "her block" will get second.  That meas a $25 gift certificate for second place.  I can never hope for first place in that group, you know!

  1. Looks beautiful! A flange would have been neat but you're right.....too much work to tear it out. Love the center block.

  2. Never rip unless you are desperate. I like it enough to leave it alone. (I ripped off 3 borders around a queen sized quilt last month - enough ripping to last a while.)

  3. Very nice. I would not rip it out either. It looks great as is.

  4. I had to do a double take on the piano border. At first I thought it was not pieced...Love it!

  5. Wow, I love it. The center is really nice. You have the most interesting designs. Good luck in the show, maybe this is your year.

  6. What about a thick green ricrac sewed onto the quilt top in the place where you wish you had put a green border?!?
