Cali

When I told Carrie the news, she said it was like the end of an era in the Parks' household, no Swissys and now no cats.

We let Cali, our sweet muted Calico, go this morning.  She was 19 1/2 and had been in kidney failure for the last two years.  We knew it was time, and so did she.  Everyone was ready, except for Frank,

She had become his cat for the last 5 or so years.  She sat with him at night and watched TV.  She slept beside him or between his legs every night.  She called loudly to him sounding so pathetically starved when she wanted fresh water or more food......or simply for someone to come and watch her eat.

While Frank dug her hole between the big 22 lb Chips and my Whitney Dallas (she came from Whitney TX which is near Dallas, not Houston) I gave each Basset offerings of her food from her last bowlful.  They all sat quietly and waited for their tiny pieces to be doled out.

Goodbye my sweet kitty.  Play nice with the heaven mice and birds and live pain free.  And remember we loved you this much.

  1. I believe that cali will send you another kitty one day - in fact, I think she will put up a note on a kitty bulletin board saying "lap available - used for only 19 1/2 years - lots of good time left"... and one day when you least expect it, and you are ready, she will quietly send a kitty who needs a special home to you and to those pesky dogs... you'll know when she or he arrives one day - a little stray, a kitty in need, and you'll scoop her up... and remember Cali.

  3. Sorry to read that you no longer have Cali with you, she looks a real sweetie in the pics. What a huge gap they leave in our lives when they leave us.

  6. Any man that loves cats like he does is a keeper, what a big heart he has (and you as well) and I hate to see it break with the loss of a pet but all the years of joy Cali brought you is definately worth some heartbreak when she goes over the bridge. Soon another kitty will decide to live with you, I am sure of that. You will have no say in the matter - it will just be :-)
