Chrome and Stripes

As you would probably guess, I am wishing and hoping for a Triple Crown winner this year.  If I could be track side at Pimlico with my $2 bet in my hand it would be for California Chrome!

His jockey was scared of horses when he was a little boy  so he would ride the donkeys in his village when his brother  rode the horses.  Now he races with a donkey on the back of his silks!

Here is a fact you probably don't know about me.  My father would bring home the racing form from Jefferson Downs, the track that used to be located in what is now Lafrenier Park in Metairie, just outside of New Orleans.  I would handicap the horses and place my bet using my allowance.  then I would climb the tree in our back yard and listen to the races.  My father would pay off (or take my allowance if I lost) from his pocket.  I learned to read the papers and evaluate the horses and do the math early on.

I won big today when I picked up the mail.  I saw the package stuffed into the box and groaned......not another round robing thing I have to get done......aughhhhhh!

But it was not.  It was a package of marvelous stripes from PattyA in Ohio!

What a great spread of stripes!  I see so much potential in this.

Thanks!  I am in love!

Oh, and when Frank gets back, I will head into the sewing room and work on something until race time.  Go Go Chrome!

  2. My Dad & I used to pick horses from the newspaper almost every day during racing season at Santa Anita, then check them against the results the next day! We never bet, but it was still fun to see who picked the most winners. Then the first time I actually WENT to the track, my girlfriend & I went to Hollywood Park & watched the harness racing. Our friend Bill had given us $1 to bet, so I added another buck, and after perusing the racing form, we picked Hi Ho Silver. First time in front of the grandstands, he was in last place, but as they went around the backstretch he started moving up & ended up winning! We were laughing so hard we could barely stand up - I think the bet paid $26.40. Of course, this was all in the olden days.... ;^)

  3. May your pockets be fuller! :o) That is a great pile of stripes. I don't do round robins, personal choice. I always would feel so much pressure. Then sewing is stressful instead of happy.
