A Happy Mother's Day and Some Books on CD

So far I have been working all day.  There will be a dinner party tonight, with my wonderful ribs.  We had smashed red potatoes and spiraled zucchini I bought from the Farmer's Market yesterday.

The house is clean, spotless.  The ribs are baking and the brownies cooling.  And the hummus is chilling!  And the folks will arrive soon!

Paula showed me how to connect my hexies into flowers to take the next step in construction.  Carrie thought the hexies were interesting but is working on an applique idea for a baby quilt so we showed her how to use WonderUnder.

Oh yes.......we had cheesecake brownies and caramel macchiatos for dessert!

For Mother's Day Carrie gave me a bag of goodies that included a quilt magazine and this Avo Saver.  It is very intriguing.  You keep the pit in the avocado and it will save the half you don't eat.

I laughed because it looks like  those earth sandals!  Now I need some avocados!

I was hoping that my Purple Fitbit Charge HR would have arrived.   I even thought that maybe Frank had intercepted it during the week and would wrap it up, but no such thing happened.  He got off easily this morning since I told him I wanted the Fitbt for Mother's Day.  the dogs gave me cards, and so did he.  The card from the Bad Basset Boyz read:  Thanks, Mom, for saving us!  The one from Carrie said:  I wouldn't be who I am without you as my Mom!

I'm in love with both of them!

Since my  Bose unit is heading to South Carolina this week for repairs, I have commandeered the CD player from the dining room/long arm room.  I finished the book Finding Me by Michelle Knight.  She was the first girl taken by Ariel Castro in Cleveland OH.  The girls are back in the news because the new book by Amanda Berry and Gina Dejesus called Hope came out last week.  I ordered 4 books on CD from the library the day my Bose stopped working!

The one I am listening to right now is The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd.  It is set in 1804 and is about women on the plantation, one a slave and one her owner. I think the author wrote Traveling With Pomegranates, which was so incredibly good.  And the Dance of the Dissident Daughter.

Tomorrow I will work on my hexies and for lunch have leftover ribs and a cheesecake brownie or two!

  2. It has been a while since I have sat down and really read your blog. Your plate has been overloaded! It made me ashamed of grousing about being ill. Someone told me that good friends can pick up a conversation after years of being apart. I can't wait to continue our journey. Please take care of yourself mentally, spiritually, and physically. We both know you put yourself last after the world. Circle.

  4. Sounds like you had a wonderful Mother's Day. I have never made cheesecake brownies, but cream cheese and chocolate together have to be great!
