Tuesday Stardate 8-16-16

It seems like a week has gone by.  Or more.  This is the state of things as of now.

We are still with amazing friends Dee. and Greg and their 13 borzoi.  Look that one up and see how big they are.   Tomorrow, Frank's coworker's son is bringing us a 27 foot travel trailer to set up at the house.  Carrie hopes she can get out of her Neighborhood and come help tearing up the house.  Other co workers are bringing generators, air conditioners, fans, bleaches.  Then on Saturday a whole bunch of Frank's co workers and long time customers are coming to tear the house out.

The water reached 31 inches inside.  Our slab is 1 foot to 1 1/2 feet and the street is another 2 feet.  From street level that is like 5 - 6 feet.  OMG

Today - Frank asked me what day it was and I had no idea.  Our cell phone is  AT&T and it has been out for days now.  Useless.  Couldn't even call for evacuation help.  If you do get a call thru it is dropped.  Some texts get thru but most fail.

This is how Carrie found us.  She face booked her childhood friend who grew up across the street from us.  Julia lives in Washington DC.  Julia got thru to her mom.  Nancy opened the window and shouted out the house next door to the porch we were on.  Carrie had someone coming in the boat to rescue us!

At 2 pm with the water rising still on the porch, we saw the first national guard big truck fill up with people from the house down the street. They yelled they would be back.  But the Cajun Flotilla began arriving and we got the three bassets on the first boat to come thru.  The Cajun Flotilla is just a bunch of good ole boys with a boat or a pirogue or a canoe who come out to help anyone they can.

Then we were transferee to a larger boat, and brought to Jones Creek McDonalds where the firemen were staging refugees.  Andrews cousin found us there put us in his truck, brought us to Womans hospital where Ashley and Jennifer picked us up and brought us home.  Carries place was Unreachable.

Ashley put a sandwich in our hands and said eat.  She put towels in our hands and said go shower.
She gave us water and said drink.  We were zombies.  We were so grateful.

Then we were brought to Dee and Gregs house and RV.  And the sext morning we made the decision to bring the dogs to the vet.  I was so unabl to care for us, and them, and they were so confused.  DiNozzo would get up every 15 minutes and just touch his nose to my hand.  The bassets were troopers.  They swam, they boated, the rode trucks, they walked, they climbed the steep RV steps, and they were so happy to get to the familiar vets!

So today, we went to the house.  It is so emotional to see your life tossed around, like all this stuff was nothing, insignificant, useless.  I had a few more panic attacks.  I couldn't get out of the car for a while. And Dee just sat with me.  The cars had water to the dashboard.  The accord had opened two of its Windows.  The water line on the house was above my waist.  My computer was sitting on the counter top and the water came to just under that.  My I pad, my new coffeemaker, my Avante, all just barely stayed out of the water.  Tomorrow glen and Paula come to take the Avante and husqvarna to their place to let the moisture dry.

I had another throat closing panic attack when I got to the door,  my fridge was on its side in the middle of the kitchen. My chairs were tossed, my sofas moved across the room, my fancy
Vibrating bed was soaked with stinking water.    My life.  My stuff.

So we gathered some clothes, my sleeping pills, and Frank got the safe open and pulled out his money.  We needed to buy a car.

They drive us to tiger Honda where my friend Mike walker works.  He has sold me 5 of the 7 Hondas I have bought.  I trusted home totally.  I had test drove a pilot about a month ago with him.  He hugged me

  1. Oh. My. Dog.
    I am speechless...
Is it enough to say I am glad you and Frank, along with the dogs, are ok ? I cannot even fathom how horrible this must be. I am grateful that you have people supporting you as you navigate the wreckage.
Love and hugs from me and the springy things.... we're sending you all our best energy as you dry out your lives.
