I have a panel with a seahorse and sea shells and some wonderfully soft colors. I have been wanting to do a low volume quilt so I hung it on the design wall and lulled some fabrics!
Of course, the low volume turned into a mid volume with, shall we say, accent darks. Right.
But I think I pulled some great fabric prospects.
Started off with this:
Dumped the dark gold, even though I liked it a lot......yeah, just not right.
Added the peachy pink at the bottom of the photo for a pop of color. Oops, there's that darn dark gold again

I added in this sea glass color. Loved it, because it is the sea and everything, but when I got it up there it made the grey in the panel look really blue.
I found a bag full of fat quarters and assorted pieces of beiges and tans that will work as pieces in various blocks. Nice.

S
o I changed out the sea glass color with a blue. I didn't have the perfect blue. So I ended up with several light blues and that darker one is totally perfect in color and tone. ended up with the following fabrics. I am hoping that the blue and peachy pink will be the soft pops of color I need in there.
Blocks?
I have been saving sea related blocks to an Instagram folder for the last few months while I have been thinking about this panel. So right now, there will be several blocks, maybe some Ohio Stars, some sail boats and some modern improv blocks. Hopefully it will be a story, of sorts, told in soft fabrics.
I am excited to start this quilt journey!
You came up with a nice mix of colors that will go well with the panel.
ReplyDeleteI have made so many sea themed quilts but this one has the possibility of being breathtaking and fun. A great combination.
