Blueberries and Spools

Yesterday I worked on quilting the Modern Robin piece and my Foxes.  Did you see my Dr. Seuss verse for the Foxes last post?

I did the 5 reds for the July color. The color of August is Indigo.  Well, I have so many blues I thought I would add to the warm side of the color wheel rather than the cool side.  So in that vein, I made a few orange and a yellow.

And I need to trim the Spools Quilt and prepare it for binding.  I won the spool blocks in the Block Lotto at River City Quilt Guild a number of years back.

We finally got to the Farmer's Market where I scored a ton of blueberries and the eggs I have been devoid of for more than a week now.

This morning I took 6 pints of blueberries and made blueberry syrup.  This really is better done in the winter but the blueberries are better done in the summer!  I had two jars not seal so I cleaned off the tops of the jars and re-processed them in the water bath.  They both sealed.

So now I have 11 jars - 6 small and 5 large ones.  We like to put it on pancakes and over pound cake at night for late night desserts.

Since I control the sugar that goes into it, it is healthier and of course there are all those blue beauties in there too!

Stash Report June 7, 2015

Another Sunday.  Another stash report.

Blueberries were a success.  Frank and Carrie picked two huge bags of blueberries that cost $22 so it must have been like 11 lbs since they were $2 a pound.  We get them fresh at the Farmers Market for $3.00 a pint, but only on Saturday if we go.  And the grocery store has them for $3.49 a pint.  Frank says it is cheaper at the farmer's market because he does not have to drive and pick  them.  But I said the time spent with his daughter was priceless.

And, Oh MY! it was delicious!

Frank and I went to lunch today, as I am feeling better by virtue of the fact I am actually getting hungry.  Do you think I lost weight not caring to eat and not eating much? No.  How does that work, anyway?

I am looking for a program that will allow me to view my photos and rename them.  It doesn't have to be like Photoshop where it edits the photos or anything, I  just want to be able to view them and organize them.  Photoshop requires you import your individual photo.  I want to take the entire file and rename each photo.  Or just view them.

You might be thinking I am avoiding reporting.  Yes, I guess, I am.  I ordered a bolt of white Kona.  And it came in this week.  i get it at a steal through a friend.  And Carrie has come for my white and my grey Kona, in addition to the Ecology Cloth.  I think she likes the Ecology Cloth better though, it is more substantial than Kona, which can be thin.  But if you want colors, you can't beat the Kona!

So there are 13 yards of fabric on a bolt.  And I had 21 yards over last week.  Check out what the damage is:

Used this week 0 Used this month 0 Used this year -76
Bought this week 13 Bought this month 13 Bought this year 67.25
Plus or minus 13 Plus or minus 13 Plus or minus -8.75

I have to begin working on backings and quilting some of my UFOs and getting things moving out!

Veggie and berry picking

Danny Prats says they still have some blackberries, a lot of blueberries, onions, garlic, green beans, a little corn, tomatoes, and some peppers left. They are down to the last 3 cases of blueberry honey.  They are in Covington and we all know I hate driving by myself, well, driving anywhere at all.  But for veggies I may just do it.

Think of the blueberry yogurt ice cream, and blackberry cobbler with that sweet dough.  Oh, yes........

Danny said there were figs coming but in about 3 weeks.  And since this is the state of my fig tree, I think I need to get some of Danny's figs for the next few years.

Darn, I wanted to go on Tuesday........Maybe Frank will take me on Saturday if he thinks blueberries and a cobbler are in the deal.

What is your favorite thing at the farmer's market?

Frank LOVES blueberries! We just bought a flat of 12 pints for $25 at the farmers market downtown.

You are not supposed to wash them but lay them on a flat baking sheet (with a small rim or they all fall off before you get them to the freezer!) and freeze them for about an hour.
Bag them up and keep in freezer for fresh berries all year.

To unfreeze them, Frank puts warm water in a glass measuring cup in the microwave for 1 minute. Then he tosses in a handful of berries and lets them sit while he puts cereal into his bowl, milk then adds the berries.  The water always turns purple so I let it cool and drink it with my fruit and yogurt.  He used to just toss it down the drain!  Ack!

Fresh berries every morning!

The best thing at the farmer's market though is the tiny tiny thin carrots. Like eating a stick of sugar! Yum!

This week the creole tomatoes were like sinking your teeth into a sweet ball of love!

glen: we go every week to the farmer's market and get a flat of either strawberries or blueberries to freeze during their seasons.
