We had a bunch of people over the day after Christmas for a Friend’s-Mas celebration. I spent all day Christmas Eve making stuffed shells and marinara sauce. Spinach and mandarins with a delightful balsamic Carrie gave me for Christmas. Chocolate iced cupcakes and brownies. Hummus and pita.
We had plenty wine and Crown Royal Apple!
Monika And Gestur brought Gluhwein, a warmed mulled wine that was amazing. It definitely paired well with the shells and sauce!
It was great having friends at the house again.
It didn’t rain for the party day, but the weather was developing for today. Several neighbors and I texted back and forth because we were concerned about the 4 to 5 inches of downpour happening. It is not just rain that bothers me since the flood in 2016, it is the downpours that bother me. Especially at night when I can’t see the area behind the house.
I can see the flashbacks in my mind vividly, the spotlights hitting the water rising around the deck in the back yard.
I have to admit I was nervous with the amount of rain with the rain gauge nearly filled at over 4 1/2 inches. But it was obvious that we were never in danger of water anywhere near what we had back then. There had been rain for a solid week and the day of the flood there was over 27 inches in a 48 hour period.
Just still makes me nervous, ya know?
So glad the joys of friendship were shared. Sorry the trauma was brought up again, but the fear is not irrational and it will take time to overcome. I will say a prayer for you.
ReplyDeleteTotally understand the anxiety that comes with lots of rain -- but it sounds like you are coping and that's what matters. Friends DO make this world a better place.

ReplyDeleteI too worry when it rains. It's cold here in Iowa, so the rain runs off instead of soaking in which makes you worry how it's going to come up. No problem here, but you never know. Take care, Happy New Year.
