My father always noted the Soltice.
We would go outside and check the position of the stars and note the Solstice day.
So here we are on the longest day of the year. I think of the peoples of old who were in the grip of deep winter. Knowing the bitter cold would continue for what seemed like forever, they were lucky if they had been able to lay in enough supplies to carry them through. The clan would gather around the fire pit for a rudimentary warmth.
I would imagine dispair would set in about another month from now.
It might have looked something like this
It is like a part of the genetic memory.
Do you feel it too?
I feel it but rejoice that we have electricity and lots of sparkling white lights in the house and on our back yard fence/front porch railings. AND that tomorrow there will start to be a few additional moments of light each and every day as we creep towards spring.
