Flooding news

we flooded from Jones Creek not being able to drain to the Amite River.  Our river stage we have to worry about is the Amite at Denham Springs.  In 2016 the crest was 46.2 feet (flood stage is 29).  When we started all this on Friday the Amite at DS was at 10.2.

The rain expected to fall has not, thankfully, but we have had a lot of rain today.  Nowhere near 2016 when we had rain for a week before the flood and 26 inches in 24 hours!

They began by predicting 39 feet at DS.  Then yesterday they revised it up three feet to around 42 feet.  That is why we left heading to Dee and Greg’s house in town.  We did come home this morning though.

The weather channel keeps showing a tree down in what they are calling Shenandoah LA.  That is where I am, across Jones Creek Road.

The Weather Service just cancelled all flood warnings on all rivers except for the Amite at Maurepas ( pronounced Mora-paw) and the Amite at French Settlement, both south of here.

So it seems if we can get the water out of the area fast enough it won’t back up into our homes!
