Today we drove into Bath UK. What a beautiful city! It is the second largest in the area. We spent the day with a walking tour of the city and it’s three natural spring baths. The guide kept saying, I will tell you more about that later, then never telling us. So I have a lot of things to look up when I get home. I needed you Helen!
I am sorry. I have no idea how the triple photos got posted. But I will fix it when I get home.
We drove into Coventry to tour the Cathedral there. It was bombed in a 10 hour long German bombing raid in 1940. The old cathedral has just the outside walls standing. A competition was held to see who would design and build the new Cathedral. Only one design (Spence) included keeping the old walls intact. It was the one accepted. The present day structure was completed in 1962.
The tapestry behind the alter is the single largest weaving ever made in one piece at over 75 feet tall and 38 feet wide. There are 10 stained glass windows with 175 panes each that grace the sides of the new cathedral. The church is a stark modern structure attached to the old bombed out building. It is the church of reconciliation now. Since 1946 there has been a group of Young German boys and men who work in the service of the cathedral whose fathers were part of the division whom destroyed the church.
Let’s see how many photos I have on this phone. If not, you will have to wait till I get home to download.
The remaining walls are beautiful so I can imagine the original church that was destroyed was magnificent - but I will tell you about that later - LOL!!!
