Cinco de Mayo Stash Report - and a little brain food as well.

(Leave me a message and let me know if you found this interesting?  Or already knew it.)

Happy Cinco De Mayo!  Do you know what Cinco de Mayo really is?  It is not the Mexican Independence Day (Sept 16), as many people believe, nor is it a party celebration in Mexico.  It is the date that commemorates the Mexican Army's unbelievable victory over the French forces at the Battle of Puebla in 1862.  General Zaragoza led the rag tag 4000 man Mexican forces in an ambush of the 8000+ well armed French army.  And won!

The French occupied Mexico after the Mexican Civil War in 1858, and Mexico owed them, Britain and Spain a lot of money.  Mexican President Benito Juarez suspended payments for two years and the French got upset and invaded.  The British and Spanish were not far behind them.

In 1861, the French army was the premier army of Europe  and they were advancing on Juarez's troops when the Mexican Army was able to ambush them in Puebla.  The History Channel says, " Although not a major strategic win in the war, Zaragoza's success at Puebla represented a great symbolic victory for the Mexican government and bolstered the resistance movement."

The French eventually won and held Mexico City for 3 years.  Once the American Civil War was over the US provided assistance to Juarez and recaptured Mexico.

Interestingly, Napoleon was occupied in Mexico and was not able to supply the Confederate Army against the North.  This contributed to the South losing the American Civil War.

Betcha didn't know that, huh?  So to celebrate Cinco de Mayo, today we took the entire master bedroom apart.  Dusted every possible surface, cleaned all the rest.  Then we rented a carpet cleaner and cleaned the carpet.

The cat, who is 19 years old and in kidney failure, decides every once in a while to pee in front of the window.  I thought I had the problem solved by cleaning the carpet and putting the ottoman there, but she started again this week.

Any ideas?  Short of getting rid of the poor kitty Cali, that won't do.  She caught a cardinal last
week again, so she is pretty spry still.  Her hearing is weak though, I startle her when I pet her.  But she functions well, otherwise.

I did get some work done this week The Uptown Girl Purse, a small fork hanging for the Fiber Group Challenge and my cute tote that went to Aiden last night.  And no new stuff in!

  1. Lots of love to Kali. Just give her all the days she can have, and enjoy each one. Nineteen is fabulous.

  2. Your cat looks good for 19! I've always heard that when cat's pee somewhere besides their box, it's because they have pain when they pee. (as long as the box is clean, sometimes they'll pee elsewhere if the box is dirty, but I'm sure your cat's box is very clean!)
I had a friend who did daily fluids SQ for her cat for almost a year.
Give Cali a gentle hug from me and a smooch too.

  3. Thanks for the history lesson and I didn't know about the French taking over Mexico for awhile. Good job on the stash reduction. As you know mine went up this weekend! Now I need to get sewing and make some tops for June!
