Baby Chicks and Diamond Dogs

I got the mountains quilt completely bound.  Now I need a label......forgot the label.

I worked on the Diamond Dogs quilt.  Got the background cut and will decide how to create the edges some time today.  I don't know how I want to make the edges look.  I have a limited amount of background dogs, so I actually can make the outside diamonds a different color, like a tan or a darker color more toward brown.

I made low carb, low fat, low sugar chia donuts.  They actually taste pretty good.
These are frosted but they do have a nutmeg glaze that I didn't make because I thought they might stick together if I stored them.  And I would have to eat them all at one sitting, you know.

I also painted my window sill grey.  It was beige and I wanted it grey. In Louisiana, we will often call that a window seal.  Yep, we do.  I envision the orking, flipper slapping fish eating seal.  In a window of course.

Baby bonus!

We have new babies just outside my den window.  I mean Brand New Babies!

The daddy is a big red cardinal.  I see him coming and feeding, but I haven't seen the momma.  She must come when I am not watching.

Aren't they totally cute and awesome?

Birthday Eve Festivities

Yesterday he came home with a balloon and a card for me.

This morning he took me to get some designer donuts a a new shop that opened this month. AMAZING Triple Chocolate Madness.  But I have a feeling that anything would have been amazing.

Then he presented me with two packs of fleece batting for two quilts I have set up for quilting.

And the card was from the dogs....A Big Hug!

Dinner and a movie!

Last night we went to see the Big Short.  There were 7 of us, and we had the movie theater to ourselves.  It wasn't planned that way, but it sort of worked out.

I recommend the movie, I  love the way it was filmed.  The Big Short was about the fraud perpetrated on the public by the housing market and sub prime loans of the early 2000's.  Everyone from the real estate agents to the banks to the loan packagers oversold the instruments.  So much fraud in every level.  There should have been thousands who went to prison; instead there was only one guy.

And thousands of us regular Joes lost jobs, our homes, 401K accounts while they all got fat.  And then the government rewarded the banks by bailing them out!

Just go see it, unless you were in the real estate or mortgage ;market you will understand it!

Donuts to Dollars

Take these ingredients
As the saying goes.  Although I don't think I will be selling any of these babies any time soon.

Mix them up
It all started when I saw Stephanie over at Loft Creations had tucked Abby in for a nap and headed to the kitchen to make Chai Donuts.  Chris told me she laughed when I had Chia Donuts giving the picture of the Chia Pet Donuts, but that was my eyes seeing what they really wanted to see!

Bake until the chicken crows
So my Chai Donuts were in the planning.  As I said yesterday I went to 5 stores before I found the donut pan.  I went to 2 stores to find buttermilk!  What is this world coming to when a decent person cannot find buttermilk on any given grocery shelf?  And another 3 places today to find the powdered Chai mix.  Lots of places had it as a liquid but not a powder.  I knew I needed it in the thickened glaze, and it had to be powdered.  Interesting enough, I did have cardamom, nutmeg, cloves and ginger handy!
Chai

Buttermilk
The Chai Donut recipe makes 6 donuts, just enough for the pan.  But I was ambitious.  I wanted more.  I found a recipe for baked buttermilk donuts.  Whoa buddy!  Talk about good!

Look at the difference between the Chai and the Buttermilk donuts!

I made a glaze of vanilla, almond and milk in the caster sugar and doused them babies but good!

The leftover chai powder made into a nice cup of chai that went perfectly with a donut!  Can you see that dog looking at the donut?  I'd better not leave it there too long.......

Go check out Stephanie's post about the Chai Donuts at

and the recipe for the Buttermilk is:

And since I had nothing else to do, I thought I would dicker with the template and give you a new view on the world!
