Door is Finished and Christmas Shopping Mostly Over Now

My contractor Michael finished the installation of my front door system at lunchtime today.  That allowed e to have lunch at m favorite Indian Restaurant Al-Noor with my sweet friend Caroline!  I just love that place and could eat there nearly every day of the week!  today they had my favorite dessert Keer!  Oh, do I love that stuff!

I say the Front Door System because it was pretty intense!  The new front door is ornate and elegant and black.  The storm door is a security door that has super tempered glass that will withstand direct hits with a hammer and has a three deadbolt rams (top, middle, bottom) instead of just the one at the middle where the handle goes.  One latch in the regular place by the knob turns all three.  I don't think anyone is coming through that door!  It is also black steel.

We don't have any security problems where we live, I just wanted that particular storm door; we were surprised by the three deadbolt things.  But I have friends who live in what I would consider the most secure place in the city in a very expensive gated and guarded community where I have to show my license to get in and they call her to approve it.  They have been broken in at least twice! 

Look at Frank's Xmas presents!  He is one lucky guy if you value size and weight of your presents!   I ordered it from Lowes and it came in during the Thanksgiving holidays.  Frank was all hot to go get it and bring it home, but there was no way to cover it in my car without him seeing it.....it was just so big!

That Armstrong Moving and Storage box is not part of it, I have some quilt books in there!  And that rolled up paper is my Magnolias pattern that needs to be made soon.

Michael just got here to finish installing the storm door.  I am stoked about the way the front door looks.  It looks elegant and beautiful!  That black looks amazing.

I took the numbers off the old door in a moment of sheer genius.  They are solid brass.  At least 30 years old now.  And would be great to use as stamps!  Pure genius!

Our Christmas Party at the Modern Guild last night was at the Louisiana Lagniappe Restaurant.  Delicious.  A bit expensive, but the food and service reflected the prices.  I had Oysters Lagniappe which was an exquisite stuffed oyster baked in the shells.  I did not indulge in the Creme Brulee that many had for dessert.  I enjoyed it vicariously!

We had a white elephant present grab and I was number 11 out of 19.  I was able to snag Tracy's fabulous solids!  She was not happy to give them up though.  My Louisiana Traveling Quilt cohort Kelly had her fat quarters stolen 5 times!  She was not happy either!

Now I need something to do with them!

First Grand Illusion Blocks and a New Front Door

I am fixing to head out to my Modern Quilt Guild Christmas Party.  We have dinner somewhere in town and exhcange some fat quarters.

I finished all 280 of the teal and pink HSTs and made three of the  Broken Dishes blocks.  Man, they are wee blocks!  And just think, only 97 to go!  LOL.  Tomorrow.

He will come tomorrow and put in the glass screen door.  then I will have someone come and put glare film on the door, the side lights and the front windows. 

My house sits at a T in the road.  And the sun sets at the end of the T.  So the front of the house has full on sun for most of the day.  I need solar panels up on the roof!

In the summertime it is hot!  I will have to get a photo of the door closed for you.  It really is a beautiful door.  I am so excited it is finally going in
