Carnival, Have I Got A Photo To Sell You!

In Miami, the port is heavily guarded.  As our ship Norwegian Bliss set sail, this Coast Guard boat whisked around looking for trouble.  The soldier never took his hand off his gun.  That, my friends, is a 50 caliber gun!  I think people salute him!

Then there was this funky lighthouse in the park by the Art Deco Section.  You can see bright colored buildings in the background.

I think this photo will make me rich.  I need to sell it to Carnival.  The Carnival Sensation was docked behind our ship in Miami.  They left just before we did and I got some great shots of the ship leaving.

Several days later while we were leaving St Thomas I was taking this sunset.  I didn't even realize the cloud looked like a whale tail (or even the Carnival ship stacks) until I saw it on the camera later that night.  I'll bet Carnival could use it for a commercial or something!

Exciting Phone Call

I had a really exciting phone call from a friend of mine.  Mary curates the Denham Springs Art Council and has exhibited across several states through her work with CFAL.  CFAL is the Contemporary Fiber Artists of Louisiana.

She wanted to know if I was interested in being part of a 6 woman exhibit.  Well, hell yeah!  Is the Pope Catholic?  Does a bear......well, you know.

I don't have al the details just yet, but I will let you know.

I was definitely over the moon!

I can put some pieces I already have in the show, but I wanted to make a few more anyway for the February presentation I am doing in North Louisiana.  (Well, aren't I the popular girl this year, huh?)  Next thing you know, QuiltCon will be calling me to make me an offer I can't refuse!

Nothing like putting pressure on yourself, right?  What is life, if not lived at top speed.

So I have been wanting to do this picture of Frank in Nova Scotia.

I may add the lighthouse at Peggy's Cove to give him something to look at.  Although he was just staring out into the beauty of that vast ocean.

I will have to go back into my notes and see what the name was.  We had visited Valerie and Len while we were up there, but I don't remember whether it was before this or after this.

This is how far I got tonight.

I am having some trouble with his hair.  You really don't see his hair in the photos, but I think he needs something in the fabric one.

I tried two different versions, one of which required me to cut out an ear.  THAT was fun.

Another interesting thing is that I always forget that the fabric image will com out reversed from the photo unless you trace the back of the copy with a dark pen.

So here I was, lecture girl, all surprised that he is looking right rather than left.

And seeing him in the red jacket, I think I need to thin him down a bit.  His jacket makes him look like Arnold Schwarzenegger -- Muscle Man Frank.

I printed out that photo of Peggy's Cover that will fit dimensionally.

So I have some fabrics from Stonehenge that will be prefect for the rocks and water and grasses along his feet.

I am stoked......about everything.

Which is good because we have the Court Case coming up on Friday.  I am testifying for CAAWS hoping to win a judgment.  We had the meeting with the attorney this morning and feel pretty confident about our facts going in.  I am no stranger to the Courthouse with CAAWS.  Usually it is for some cruelty or animal dumping sleezebag.

Oh well, I will work on as much as I can in the next few months to get ready for show and lectures.

Art Girl Extraordinaire needs her beauty rest!

The Dog Who Saved A Ship

I realized that I had not posted some of the photos I wanted to post from the vacation.

Here is a lighthouse that keeps ships from crashing on the rocks at Rocky Harbor in Grand Morne National Park.  The Lobster Cove Lighthouse was built in Cowshead Bay. Rocky Harbor is located on a flat plain on the western edge of Newfoundland, near the entrance to Bonne Bay.  There are 119 shipwrecks  lining the harbor
submerged in the icy waters.  In 1919 , the SS Ethie sailed from Humbermouth and caught in a storm off Cowshead Point at Rocky Harbor.  The captain knew the ship was doomed so  he  chose to run the ship aground at the lighthouse point.

The Western Star reported about the dog in the December 17, 1919 edition:
"A line was fired from the ship, but got caught up amongst the boulders, so the people of Martin Point sent out one of their dogs, a very sagacious animal, to bring it ashore."

This was a fabulous tree I found at the entrance to  Western Pond in Grand Morne Park.  Western Pond is an inland fjord.  It kills me every time Frank sayys ffjord, he  screws his mouth up and says: fwyierd.  It is hysterical.
This is the view to Westrn Pond and of the tableland they call mountains.  The material is actually the earth's mantle that has been pushed up between the  ranges.
It is a beautiful  place here in Canada.
The waves are from the Atlantic Ocean into Cowshead Bay and Rocky Harbor in Newfoundland looking  to Labrador.
