10:15 Pm Tuesday night

We ate dinner, chinese rice and chicken, and baked brownies.  Watched some TV waiting for the Republican Convention to come on.  Just before Ann Romney spoke we walked the dogs for 1/2 mile around the block.

Still no rain.  The sprinkles earlier were just that.  Every time I look at the radar, I see we are on the edge.  We are still on the edge of the circulation.  I think our wind is still at 25 mph.  Baton Rouge is in that blue right on the edge of the yellow/red.

Ann Romney spoke, Chris Christie spoke, and Hugeaux is getting a bit more upset, so I am thinking the storm is close in dog terms.  I gave him some Rescue Remedy to help his nerves.  The walk helped some of the energy but he still is worried.

I sewed several more Paperweights and rearranged the design wall to be laid out like they need to be.  They will change location and I may continue adding more and make it larger, who knows how long the electricity will hold out!  I think it needed to rotate and did not.  The bright green should be in the left top position.  Just go ahead and imagine it! LOL.  I need more red, I can see that.  More red will do fine.

Charlene and I texted well wishes, safe night to each other.  Ann and I spoke earlier, her mom is settled in and she is home. Carrie checked on her dog, my cousin in Destrehan is settled in with beer and bread and toilet paper, all the essentials.

We wait now.  When I look at the clouds in the sky they appear to be racing faster than I have ever seen them move.  And still we wait.  That is the hard part for me, the waiting.

You can feel the air is just different.  The weather people are huddled in New Orleans where it has been raining all night and most of the afternoon.  They are having a hard time standing up in the wind so I think it is in the 60 mph gusts.

I am heading in to take a bath, Frank will follow.  Afterwards I may go out and see the weather for you and see if I can video some of the trees.

So tonight, after a long, hard day with Lois' family and sharing a shoulder with a good friend at lunch, I had to touch fabric.

I waited until after dinner, a trip to Best Buy to check out photo scanners (if anyone has a good recommendation for a photo scanner or where to buy one I could use it!) and a disagreeable conversation with social security (who does not recognize power of attorney authority for anyone, geez how am I supposed to get my mother's check put into the new account?????? Government morons, but I digress......)

All you need to know is that at some point I sat down to the machine and began to sew.

Design Wall Monday 8-20-12

OK, in my zeal to use up fabric on my Paperweights pattern, I think I cut up one of the remaining two borders for my Jack and Gourdy Throw a Party quilt.  Aughhhhhh!  I found a piece of one border but not the other border.  I can kill myself for that act of stupidity!  Can you believe I did that?

In other news, I finally have Dan's quilt and the lizards off the quilt frame in my dining room.  So I can put another on there and actually get some work done again.  I rummaged through my EXTENSIVE UFO top collection and came up with a couple of possibilities.  I finally settled on the Dogs.

I started Dogs as a Planet Patchwork New Year's Day Mystery and finished it in the next month.  This was about 4 years ago maybe.  So it went into the pile to be quilted.  You probably can't see but the black is bones and the beige is Scotties, Spaniels, Setters,  Retrievers and Dalmations with red clothes and leashes.  It is 80 x 80 so it needs to be on the frame.  That means an overall pattern, which is fine, I just want to move some of these pieces out and get some stash used up for backings.  Dogs takes 4 1/2 yards of backing material!  Yes.  I have to piece several dog fabrics to get coverage, but that is perfectly fine!

And on my machine piecing portion of my quilt room, I began work on a new top called Paperweights by Aardvark Quilts.  It is pure love.  Until.........

And I am using up a lot of stash stuff there as well.  I had a very large learning curve with the piecing and cutting.  I ruined 3 of the circles before it finally hit me what I needed to do.  I cut up some fat quarters because she calls for 1/4 yard of 14 fabrics.  Never thought about it, but you cannot use FQs, it must be length.  So last night I was in there cutting up some more fabrics.    You would think she would put that little note in her pattern tips, but no.  I would have appreciated that bit of knowledge before I cut up my fat quarters.

I have ordered a kite ruler and that should be here on Monday.  I thought a tri recs ruler would do for the background parts, but you need a 45 degree ruler, which NO ONE IN THE ENTIRE CITY HAD.......so I had to buy a petal ruler and am making do.  Sigh.

The Paperweights are testy things, you have to do every thing so perfectly and that is not really how I sew.  This may be the thing that gets my goat.  But so far, so good.

Finally! A New Quilt!

Charlene and I were playing with the iPad the other day and we came across a quilt we both fell in love with.  And I think Ann wants to join in with us.  And we don't have to purchase a single piece of fabric!  A total win for everyone!

Colors

It is the Paperweight pattern.  We have begun to collect some dark white on black fabrics for the back.  And I am searching my templates for a ruler that will do without me buying a special one just for this quilt.  I have the triangle but am still looking for one that is shaped like a kite.

Backgrounds

I may have to try my hand at making a plexiglass template using my woodworking tools.  {PattyA, have you ever done this?  Any tips?} I figure you would be the one to have done it!

I am excited to be working on new while I am still getting the UFOs out of the way.  I go back to this post which began my friendship with Landscapelady.  I feel so happy to be doing new work.  It clears my mind.  And it allows me to do what I want to do, not what I have to finish up from the past.  Look to forward!

And I have a couple of small hangings to test out for Judy.  So things should be moving right along here.
