Great Find At Purple Cow

I needed to get ou tof the house so I headed to The Purple Cow.  The PC is a resale shop to which that I donate all my stuff I no longer want or need at the back door.  Then I go around to the front door and buy more stuff!  (not always, but a lot of the time!)

2 Pillow Shams
I diidn't have anyhing to give up, so i thought i would look at summer tops.  I didn't find anything but a pair of capri blue jeans with a pair of dangly strings on the side at the knee.  I love love love dangly things!  $4.99!

Fish Detail
And I found this duvet cover that had two pillow shams attached.  I thought to use it for some dying projects this summer.  Paula said she wanted to try her hand at making color and I have been wanting to get back into dyeing.  Perfect!

$8.99 - that is how much I paid for the whole bunch of fish!
And in addition to the yards and yards of fabric to dye, it has a wonderful fish border that will make several really cool quilts.

I am not going to add or subtract anything from my Stash Report so it remains the same.

Aren't you jealous?  And just look at those Ellies!

Puple Cow Finds

Here are the things I brought home for under $10.00.  I am always amazed at what I get for next to nothing.  Sorry Frank, I didn't  get any men's shirts for you to check out!

These are the two green linen pants.  Neither are my size or else they would be on me right now.  The greens are complimentary but different enough to be used as two separate fabrics in a piece.

And isn't this a great pocket!  It can be used as an accent on my creation.  Hee Hee!

Both were 99 cent each!

These are 99 cent pink deliciousness.  And a size 6, so that definitely is not even in my range of sizes if you named 4 or 5 of them.  These babies are elegant couture wear and a good weight.  They just might become a couple of wine bottle bags, or even find their way into my scrappy strippy heart piece.

I can't even tell you how wonderful  this skirt is.  I thought, if I can't  wear it, nobody will!  I envision a really cool hobo bag, since we are talking hobo lately.  Don't you love this?  I want a skirt like this for me.........OK - it was $2.99

Back
This is the jacket.  Yep, 99 cents as well.  It is linen and has these marvelous appliqued pieces all over it.  Not just down the back but on both fronts and on each sleeve.  Actually, for a really serious art piece all I need to do is to stretch these pieces on some canvas and do a gallery wrap.

Oh, yes, no corduroy.  that is actually what I went to look for..........!

Lowe's

I stopped off at the Purple Cow and got two pairs of green 100% gorgeous linen pants.  So I immediately thought that I needed some canvas drop cloths to add to those pants.  I also scored a pillowcase with some fancy old time girls that are begging to be tossed into my string heart box. And a linen jacket that looks like an art quilt already!

After Physical Therapy yesterday, mostly to get some human contact, but also to check out the drop  cloths.  Frank has been out of town all week at some training and it has just been me and the dogs.  I had asked Carrie if we could go to lunch during the week but she didn't even call me.

While at Lowe's I ran into a friend and we talked about knees, dogs and quilting.  I  really enjoyed seeing her.  We run into each other every once in a while.

Why did I buy paint drop cloths......no I am not painting!  I am making something with it and the linen pants.  Just you wait and see what I come up with!

Hey, this would be a great Challenge!  Quick, go get yourself a drop cloth!

Andrea told me that she used these drop cloths  to make curtains and seat covers for dining room chairs and other exciting things I had never even thought of!  They must be wonderful things, indeed!

If McGee cooperates, I will start on my project today.

Dogs and the Purple Cow!

Some people asked about the dog food tote bags.  You need the type of bag that is like tightly woven plastic.  It was very easy to sew on my Husqvarna 930E which is a strong machine and didn't even notice the difference in the materials.  The bags are not thick at all, they are much like fabric in thickness.  However, the bags are very slithery and stiff so you need to make sure you don't use pins and create holes.  So what did I do?  I have a whole container of all sizes and colors of bullnose clips.  I love them because they are so  useful in many situations.  And they are strong enough  to hold slippery bags together with moving fabric.

I guess you can use the heavy paper type of dog food bag but I have not used that one yet to know how it sews.  there are a lot of really cool looking bags you can use, but if you are using the food for your own dog, be very careful about switching foods out quickly.  It can cause explosive diarrhea.  And you DON'T want that.

3 on a bed trying to stay warm

Dog Tip:  If you want to switch foods (anytime you want to switch foods) save a bit of the old food and take a week to switch.  Start the first two days by using 1/4 new to 3/4 old.  If that  goes well, do the next two days as 1/2 an 1/2.  If  that goes well, do 3/4 new to 1/4 old for 2 days.  And on the 7th day, do 100% of the new.  The whole time supplement with yogurt that has probiotics and live cultures.  You dog should be able tto handle dairy though.  If he can't then you need to get some acidophilus and supplement with that.  I actually give my dogs yogurt daily in their food.

I needed a pick me up today, and we all know I don't need more fabric, right?  But I could not help myself.  I knew the 99 cent rack would be full of cotton since I hadn't been there in a while to pick through it.  And my CRV just went in there by itself.  Really.

My camera battery was nearly out and I just had enough juice to get three photos.  But they will show you what I go for $7.00 total!  Yes, SEVEN.

TWO junior large sundresses.  When I saw these I decide the quilt needed to be in the pink range.   I think I have the pattern in my head as small crosses - four in a block and they sort of float.  i saw it in one of the recent copies of like Quilt Magaziine or Quiltmaker, yes I think it is Quiltmaker.

These are three shirts, I checked and made sure they were 100% cotton and didn't have any spandex or poly in there.  So many of them have it.  I also check to make sure the cottons are heavier and not real thin.  I had to put back three I really liked because they were on the thin side.  If you want make a block with layers or shirring maybe but not for the block itself.

Another plus with shirts is that you get BUTTONS too!  I love buttons.  Just like PattyA, although she uses hers.  I hoard mine!  You need to go check her out and see how she is quilting the music quilt.  I am loving it!

The most wonderful two things were these right here!  The pink shirt is a soft pure corduroy dream.  And the blue is a soft linen feel chambray wrap skirt.  There is a lot of fabric in that skirt because it  is double wrapped and tied.

Aren't the all wonderful??????  Can you see them all together in a girl's quilt?

I need to clear off my sewing spae in the sewing room and work on this.

I also need to complete the leaves quilt and do a challenge for River City.  the Challenge is to use the official River City Guild Block in someting.  I have the most wonderful idea I know will win the #1 prize, you watch!

No I am not showing it to you!

Bonnie Hunter would be proud of me!

Didn't get much sewing done last week at all.

But this week promises to be better.  Well, the last half of this week anyway, considering this is Wednesday.  I had to bring some old skinny clothes to the Purple Cow, which is like Goodwill but with better prices).  And I ended up with some bargains.  When I got home I realized I still had the old clothes in my back seat.  Duh!

I scored 4 pairs of shorts of various colors for $2.99 each.  White Stag brand so I know they were not cheap stuff in their previous life.  And two pairs of stretch knit pants for my mom at $2.50 each.  The nursing home is always losing her stuff so it is hard to keep things in her closet.  So I just find things like this and know they will lose them anyway somewhere along the line.

The biggest and bestest thing I got was the men's shirts from the 99 cent rack.  I got 10 shirts, all great plaids and 100% cotton for $10!

Maybe even better and bigger than that was the Spanx I found for $2.99!  Yeah, buddy, shorts and Spanx, I am hot and rolling this summer!

Then I had a card that got me 20% off the entire order so I walked out with 10 shirts, 2 pants and 4 pairs of shorts AND Spanx for $24.  Can't beat that with a stick.

Now I am going to buy a lottery ticket!

Fabric find

Oh oh oh.  Just had to post this one.  I found this 100% cotton house dress at the Purple Cow, our local resale shop which is like Salvation Army and Goodwill.  They know me there and will save extra goodies for me.
This was in the 99 cent rack!

What a find!  I laid it out on the ironing board but it is a full length house dress.  Wowser!

We were talking on one of the blogs just this Monday about having all these shirts and making quilts out of them.   I have enough for several quilts!  Stuffed into a drawer in the quilt room closet.  They may come out soon.

glen:  do I have to list them as a UFO???????
