Sewing for the Dogs

Certainly you have seen that Pinterest photo:



Well, this seems to happen a lot to beds that McGee sits on.

When I run the Roomba, I move the dog beds to the sofa.  It was perfectly fine.

When I looked at him yesterday afternoon, the foam center was showing.

Huh?  And he happened to be on it at the time.

So I decided to replace the cover since it is a bed that Chloe likes a lot.  And the darn thing was not cheap.  Why are dog beds so expensive?

When I got to taking it apart, I decided to just replace the bottom portion.  In McGee's defense, it did seem to rip easily.  But, hey.  McGee was on it.  You know.

He is the one who cannot have a crate pad in his crate because they are prone to exploding as well.

You can see why this fabric was 50 cents a yard.  LOL   Great for dog beds since it is just mis-pinted on that one line.



It is now in the washer getting washed before it goes back on the foam pad.

And here is DiNozzo modeling the Hoodie I made for GrandDog Hugeaux.  He wears one when he dines here at my house.  But at home, Carrie has to clean his ear hair after he eats.

It is technically called a Snood.  And McGee and DiNozzo each have their own Hoodie when they eat.  But try to put one on Chloe, you might get yourself bitten!  She does not cater to that!

I think it makes a nice preppy statement for an up and coming Spaniel.

UFO Cousins Had Photos This Time

OK, Mary, here's the deal.

The first photo she showed me appeared to be of the camera aimed directly into the sun.  She explained it  as the light from the craft hovering over the area in Tickfaw, just outside of Hammond.  Which is where we lived for 7 years.  I guess we were lucky not to have gotten abducted. 

Pretty accurate details, though.

I didn't see any  part of the craft, which was said to be cigar shaped with rows of colored lights.

The next photo was of a beam of light in the late afternoon, early evening before the sun went down.  That was the tracker beam from the UFO that brings things into it.  I guess like cows.  Don't cows get transported on a regular basis, or do they just lose all their blood.

You know, LeeAnna at Not Afraid of Color has some pretty weird looking cows from that Rainbow Scrap Challenge last year.  I wonder where she got the thoughts in her head that cows might actually look like that?  Might have been planted there. 

Then, the most interesting photo of all though, was the blinding sun, with a portal that looked like a white door.  She said when it opened, beings come through.  Maybe that is where the cows come home. 

She had other photos, but these were the significant ones.

I sent this photo to Carrie currently in Austin, TX with the caption:  Hugeaux looks freaked out because he just met his cousins and learned that the aliens are coming through the door in the sun.........


Then, he  just went into the crate and gave up!

A Miserable Week All Around and a Stash Report 11-1-15

Ahhhh!  A new month!  I get to start at 0's again!  LOL.

Poor little Hugeaux is doing well after eating all that Halloween chocolate.  Bad bad grand dog.  And
we had Halloween on Saturday moved up to Halloween on Friday because yesterday we had some tornadoes and over 4 inches of rain over the afternoon and night.  I was skeptical about the change but they were right to do it, the weather really was that bad.

I got some things done this week, not much but a few.

I worked on another set of T-Shirt Back blocks for a boy's quilt.  And I got the Raffle quilt for the Swissy Rescue Foundation off to Pat in Florida.  That was just a matter of finishing sewing the binding and mailing it off.

I grabbed some UFO blocks leftover from a dog quilt I made 5 years ago and made them into a small duffel bag for the CAAWS Raffle in December.


I also put together the 9 large blocks for the quilt Paula is donating for the church fair.  I sashed the blocks, put on two borders and will bring it to her to quilt tomorrow.  I previously made 3 (maybe 4) of the large blocks.  Paula and some others made the rest of the blocks.  Although it looks so dark here, the borders and binding are of a wonderful pine needle print that matches the color ranges of the greens inside the quilt blocks.  So that is 1 1/2 yards to declare.

Here is my whine for the week.  I am working on the Egyptian Pyramid and Sphinx piece for the Fiber Group.  I get stuck because I don't really have the creative talent to take it to the next level.  I can put the photos on, and do the backing, but the WOW creativity part is where I am lacking.  I just don't have that.  I have the  idea in my mind, but it rarely translates to the fabric. 

I have also been working on the quad-tych from this small group of friends.  I have trashed this one twice now.  And the current incarnation may not make it far.  See what I mean?  I really need to stick to quilt type stuff........aughhhh!  Must be the weather, nothing seems to be feeling right this week.

I am working on binding the Skele-Biker.  Got that half done, you can see where i started and stopped last night.  At least I can do binding well........

Hugeaux Spends Halloween at the Emergency Vet

When I had my Swissys I was in a group of Swissy owners spread about the country.  We were very close friends, most of us, by virture of the tri colored dogs we owned.  It never failed, one of us would have some sort of doggy emergency around a holiday.  So we would hold our collective breaths until we heard of  that one who had the ER Vet Visit.  Then we breathed easily knowing
we were off the hook.

Well, this year it is Hugeaux who decided to be the one who took the ER Visit Challenge.  Hugeaux is the King Charles Cavalier Granddog. 

Carrie had lunch us and then headed home.  She had a long week at work and was calling it an early Halloween end to the week.  When she got home, she found Hugeaux had eaten 1 bag of 3 Musketeers, 1 bag of Snickers and 1 bag of Butterfingers.  He had left the Laffy Taffy for later. 

Now Hugeaux is about 18 lbs.  That was about 3 lbs of candy. 

I told her to make him throw up, and he did twice only giving up about 1/2 a bag of 3 Musketeers.  Then the runs started and I recommended she call the vet.

Did you know that Valium is an antidote for doggy chocolate poisoning?  He is one mellow little guy tonight.

Luckily he is doing fine. 

No Sew Saturday - Bad Bad McGee

Tonight we are off to a dinner party at the Donahue's beautiful home.   It will be good to see that group again, it has been a while.  Carrie and Andrew are off to Natchez to celebrate their anniversary #4.  We are grand-dog sitting.

We worked in the yard today because it is supposed to rain tomorrow.  I bought marigolds, begonias, coleus and zinnias to mix in with the caladiums that were so prolific last year.  I know most will come back but some were rotted to mush.  So there was some space to put the new beauties I planted.

I do container gardening because of the idiots dogs I have running around.  Even so, I am not sure the ones I put out today will not get up earthed by the idiots  dogs.    I can't find where the photos from today went in my computer so you get my lovely pansies I just pulled up.

Frank bought me a little sit upon stool that rolls along the flower beds.  It is too cute.

After doing all that work we chilled on the deck for a while.

I went to take a bath, Frank vacuumed, then bathed.  When I came out to the kitchen, McGee had struck.

Hugeaux

We keep their dog food container wedged under the microwave stand so they can't get into it.  For 28 years we have had that there, with never a problem, until McGee.  He works the box out from under the stand, opens it and fights anyone off who tries to enjoy his efforts with him.  I mean, he works to get that out of there.  So I changed the way I put it in there.

Today, he MOVED THE MICROWAVE STAND to get to the food container!  He is like the Arnold Schwarzenegger of Basset Hounds.  Gotta admire his tenacity and the ability to keep thinking of ways to get at it.

Oh, and see my Japanese rock garden behind me?  I love it.
One day I will have to show you how we use grass to make it look like the water falling over the dam and rippling in the pond.

Christmas Project Rice Bag Foot Warmer

I owe you a tutorial or two.  I know.  I was so busy last week I did not have a chance to test any of the ones I had planned for you.  So here is one that I have made before and liked and thought you might like as well.

It is easy to do.  Cheap to make if you use your scraps.  And really necessary in the cold months when the dog wants to cuddle close and not at your feet! 

Chloe the Smelly Basset

I am so lucky to have TWO hot dog warmer dogs now.  Chloe wants to curl up by me only when it is cold.  DiNozzo loves to lay over me, on me, under me, on my feet, on my arm, on my stuff.......you get the picture.  And when the Hugeaux the Grand-Dog comes to visit he LOVES to cuddle.  Cavalier King Charles Spaniels were made, of course, to be used as bed warmers after all!

But I digress........

Here is the wonderful tutorial from V and Co.  Make one for everyone on your list in their favorite colors.  Dinosaurs for the kidlets, butterflies for the moms, camo for the dads.  And one for you as well.

I used my 15 minute made fabric scraps to put one of my own together just now.  Took maybe, 15 minutes if you take out Frank coming home, the dogs racing around the back yard, trying to explain why the accounting program won't work and all that.

(I blatantly stole this comment from one I left on the 15 Minutes Play blog.  It sounded inspired, so I used it to start my own post!) 

I have had such small bits of time this week, I don't know where it all goes. Maybe tonight I will get in the Quilt Room and sew up the rest of my second Mystery Quilt.  LSU is playing tonight, the grand-dog is home with his momma and the quilt room is a bit more tidy and neat (if you can call it that).  And the chicken salad I made this afternoon is ready to spoon on to the bread when Frank is ready to eat.

QUILT ROOM HERE I COME!

Friday morning Carrie called me and said she missed her dog something awful.  She wanted him home for the weekend.  He would come back on Monday or Tuesday and stay until a new crate was constructed for him at home. (He chews out of whatever they put him in.) I suggested she meet us for lunch at the Thai place we like and then head to the house for the dog.  When we arrived at the house together, I opened the door and stepped back so her baby could greet her with effusive wild gyrations of joy! 

The unimaginable happened.

He passed her up and ran to me with effusive wild gyrations of joy.  Oh, oh.

I was shocked, I looked at her face and she looked like she was going to burst into tears!  I shoved him to her and he said, Hi Mom.......oh but Grandma is home!

Poor Carrie, she took him home and I am sure he is loving up on her now, glad to be home. 

glen:  he obviously had a lot of fun here, chasing squirrels, flushing birds, eating dog bones all day long, dragging around huge stuffed squeakies, sleeping with grandma on the sofa every night, going to Petsmart, getting yogurt in his dinner, getting Nupro in his dinner, eating bananas   

If you are in River City -- Don't Look!

I have a new and exciting quilt on my design wall today.  It is the beginning of the culmination of the Mystery Quilt I presented to River City Guild, here in Baton Rouge, LA.  I missed a meeting because of of a problem with my mother last month and I was supposed to give out the 7th installment of the quilt.  I was pleasantly surprised to find that a lot of people are actually doing the mystery.  That is a great and wonderful thing!

The mystery is from Planet Patchwork and we did purchase the rights to present it, so we are totally legal.  The only thing is, I have found several errors that have been difficult to deal with when it gets to the masses.  People don't adjust easily. 

The center is complete but not sewn together, the dark will be the inside border and the snowballs will alternate in and out on the outer border.  I probably will bind it in the dark. 

I really like the quilt.  Of course I chose it because of the way it looked!  But I do like it.  And it has been very easy to do.   And I am doing another one as well.  Why I began two I will never know, but I will have two quilts soon enough.  The other is a light batik background that is orange and yellow and blue with an off white (to the slight orange tinge) light center.  It Will probably be on the design wall next week!

Oh, and I am babysitting the grand dog Hugeaux the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who eats through metal crates when a storm hits.  And has also eaten through the two soft crates.  And yet, had not a single problem with me during the storm yesterday.  Sigh.
