Cruisin'

I hope you will check out Instagram in the next week.  I am at #quiltswissy or #quiltsanddogs

Facebook is Glen QuiltSwissy if you are of that persuasion.

Yes, our flight is a 737 Max 8 that was grounded...…...yep!

I so miss this lady, Patsy.  She and Chuck cruised with us for many years.  Lots of happy memories and in the end, a few painful ones.  Talked to Chuck the other day.  He is still in a bad place, but at least he is still here.

This Was the Other Phone Call I Got

While we were gone, I received two phone calls.  Then I will get to the photos.

You all know about the one horrible phone call I had with my vet about losing Chloe on the cruise.  That was pretty bad, dealing with the guilt of being away and knowing my girl had to spend her last moment alone.

I always have held them in my arms.  Each and every one.  Chloe was just stubborn enough to want to do things her way though.  She certainly walked a different path.

We knew Chloe had that cancer, we bought her a year with the surgery last August.  Neither the vet nor I thought I would bring a dog home from that procedure.  He called her the Miracle Girl and kept her chart out to show the vet students as they came thought the clinic.

The other phone call was not unexpected either.  But blindsided me with the timing.

We have known Chuck and Patsy for years, traveling with them since we met in Alaska across a
dinner table on a cruise way back in the 90's.  It was a great friendship that spanned continents, you could say.  We would laugh and play games and drink local beers, but Chuck was the only one who ever ate the termites.  Minty, he said.

Patsy had a beautiful voice.  She would sing in the talent contests and she would always win.  The prize was invariably a bottle of champagne and they would come to our room and we'd drink it sitting out on the balcony while Chuck smoked.

I told the story once about saving Chuck's life when he was driving his rig through Baton Rouge and had a heart attack.  He ended up having open heart surgery and staying with us till he was able to get back on the road.  He talked to Patsy every night.

First Chuck got cancer and surgery, then Patsy got pancreatic cancer and died suddenly 3 years ago.  Chuck was devastated.  He fell in with the first woman he met at the next truck stop.  I use the term woman loosely.

We met her when we were in North Carolina, my opinion didn't change.  I would get phone calls from Chuck, lifeline calls I termed them.  Just to know someone cared, someone loved him.  Well, he made one of those calls while we were gone.  I didn't answer.  And I didn't call back for a week.

And then he gave up.

When we got back I called his phone and a social worker answered.  She assured me they have his truck locked down and he is in the hospital where they are caring for him.  Yes, The woman bled him dry, used him, tossed him.

I had known this call would come too, like I said, but it blindsided me just like Chloe did.  And if I had been home, it might have gone another direction.  Sometimes just a word will make that difference.  You know.  You just have to listen.

Nothing to do?

Not really, you know better than that! LOL.  Nothing quilty so I will share some other pics with you.

Laura Plantation in Vachery, LA
I have lots to do, just not enough time to do it in!  So today I DID nothing.  Well, that is not exactly true either.  I didn't get quilting or sewing done, I did a lot.

I closed down and sold my business 5 years ago.  And I get a notice today saying that my CD in the  name of my business is considered unclaimed and will go to the government.  Well........I spent 3 days on the phone working this out.

Patsy and Chuck In Costa Rica
It seems that when I closed the business down and transferred all the financial stuff into my personal name, that this one got missed.  It has auto renewed for 5 years.  So after 5 years of non-customer initiation, the law says it goes to the government.

Boom!  just like that!  I was listening to Glen Beck or Sean Hannity, one of them, the other day and he was saying that the government puts loopholes into the tax code so that if you "trip" they can "take" the money or property.  I thought at the time, what nonsense.  But this is a perfect example of that in action.

Patsy in Belize
Now I am working on getting it declared mine again.  It is not like they can't find me, either.  I banked for about 30 years with this same group, and they have multiple other instruments and several accounts with my name all over them.  So I know they did not try too hard to "find" me.

So, my advice to you.  During this tax season, go over all the stuff you think you have and make sure you really have it.  And consider not letting your instruments auto-renew.  Take an active role in your money.

The government will get it fast enough.

Blah Day

It must be Monday.  Today was just a blah day.  I didn't have the energy to do anything.  Nothing.  So I did just that.  Nothing.

Got nothing accomplished.

Quilt pattern?
Well, I did get the BAM info out for CAAWS, made dinner albeit from leftovers I just tossed into the microwave, cut out 17 white squares to complete the Block Lotto blocks so I can win those fabulous triangle blocks.  I need to complete 3 1/3 blocks to have my nine maximum for the drawing.  I hope to do that tomorrow, today I was just exhausted.

I took this picture in Halifax a couple of years ago.  I thought it would be a great idea for a pattern.  I see it as a totally modern quilt.  It would need a Canadian name, well, like Halifax maybe?
Me and Patsy in Boston

This picture was taken in Boston and that is my cruising buddy Patsy from South Carolina.  The most wonderful Southern accent comes out of her mouth when she talks.  Chuck just makes you laugh all the time. She and Chuck had the good fortune to be assigned to our table during one of the Alaska cruises and forever since we have cruised together nearly every year.  We love being with them.  I am thinking about this cruise in April, we will be with them again in the Caribbean.  Maybe for the last time.  Wonderful and bittersweet.

I have been getting some of the scrap pieces cut up and filed in the Bonnie System.  I toss all my scraps into a box and then at some point in the future I sort them and trim them into pre-determined sizes.  I spend a lot of energy keeping DiNozzo from eating them.  Or my rotary cutter.  Or the thread in the box on the shelf in the sewing room.  yes, he is very creative, and not too bright.

DiNozzo!  Why does that darned dog drink out of the toilet when he has a water bowl in nearly every room? Including the bathrooms?
