Money - Part Deux

I know you are wondering how much money I had in the container on top of the washer/dryer.  I will keep you in suspense no further.

$16.21, two beads, a small button and a large button.

And I dropped a dime under my computer desk so I effectively have $16.11 to spend.  I can't find that dime anywhere, so I guess it will have to be found when I clean up or sweep in the quilt room.  Which may be next year!

That will get me:

About a third of a tank of gas
A yard and a bit of fabric at today's prices
A meal at McDonald's with Frank
Chicken fingers at Canes' for the two of us
A gallon of BHP free milk and another for yogurt

Or a 40th Anniversary Card for my honey!

A Special Treat For Me, or How I Make My Money

I bet you are wondering how I make my money these days.  I used to have a high power job in HR for a major hospital here.  I controlled the hiring of everyone except the doctors themselves.   Then I worked on my own as a headhunter for specialized engineering positions across the US as Job Force One.

I loved it and made tons and tons of money by working very little!

But now I don't have either one of those jobs, but I have a job I love..........cutting up fabric and sewing ti back together again in my own little room.  And sometimes with friends.  I'll bet you wonder how I am making money now to keep myself in fabrics and fun stuff like patterns and rulers and organizational supplies....(believe that?)

Here is my secret.  I collect the money from the washer and dryer and put it into a large container atop the dryer.  About every month, when it gets full, I count it out and use it to buy something special that we normally would not get.  Something decadent and special.  Because this is my money I get to spend it entirely on me!  (Or a favorite dog perhaps.)

When Carrie was home I collected more, but I still do OK now.  Frank usually uses dollars and pockets the change.  He rarely digs change out of his pocket.

So I counted up the container in the laundry room today.  It was pretty full.  There was even a freshly laundered dollar bill in there!

Check back tomorrow and see how much I made and what great and exciting thing I will do with the money!

Dreaming....... yards of the fabric from Riley Blake, a new car, the cruise through the Panama Canal we are looking at for next year..........oh, how fantastic.  Or, I can save it for my second million!

Nothing to do?

Not really, you know better than that! LOL.  Nothing quilty so I will share some other pics with you.

I have lots to do, just not enough time to do it in!  So today I DID nothing.  Well, that is not exactly true either.  I didn't get quilting or sewing done, I did a lot.

I closed down and sold my business 5 years ago.  And I get a notice today saying that my CD in the  name of my business is considered unclaimed and will go to the government.  Well........I spent 3 days on the phone working this out.

It seems that when I closed the business down and transferred all the financial stuff into my personal name, that this one got missed.  It has auto renewed for 5 years.  So after 5 years of non-customer initiation, the law says it goes to the government.

Boom!  just like that!  I was listening to Glen Beck or Sean Hannity, one of them, the other day and he was saying that the government puts loopholes into the tax code so that if you "trip" they can "take" the money or property.  I thought at the time, what nonsense.  But this is a perfect example of that in action.

Now I am working on getting it declared mine again.  It is not like they can't find me, either.  I banked for about 30 years with this same group, and they have multiple other instruments and several accounts with my name all over them.  So I know they did not try too hard to "find" me.

So, my advice to you.  During this tax season, go over all the stuff you think you have and make sure you really have it.  And consider not letting your instruments auto-renew.  Take an active role in your money.

The government will get it fast enough.
