Suddenly Saturday

I woke up this morning with the idea that we would eat breakfast, get DiNozzo and Chloe walked (McGee and I stand at the end of the driveway and wait, that seems to make him happy just to be out in front) and head out to meet some cyclist buddies and ride.

The morning went a bit awry when McGee started throwing up.  I made him throw up fabric scraps he ate yesterday, but now I am thinking that he has more in there and they are blocking stuff from going down.  So after a nice chat with the vet I took him in.

He is there, getting sonogramed and hopefully fixed back to normal.

And YES......he went through TWO barricades to get to the sewing room.

But we did get to see the pelicans at the Lakes!  We dropped him off and headed out to meet the group.  We got in 12.8 miles this morning before heading home.

Addendum:  picked McGee up from vet at 1:30 pm and he looked like he was going to live.  They gave him barium and x-rayed all the way down.  They found fabric in his lower intestines, I guess it cleared out.

I have pills and a probiotic for him now.......stupid dog.  I have no idea what kind of barricade to use now that he can open all mine.

Riding in the Rain Wednesday

Dan assured Frank that it was not going to rain.  Famous last words, they were.

We headed out for a ride in Dan's area, Frank loves going back into the White Oak area.  The clouds did look ominous.  Really ominous.  Dark and stormy looking.

And sure enough it rained.  It actually was a pretty good downpour on us.  We rode 8.7 miles and about 3.5 of them in the driving rain hitting us like needles.  I was concerned that my camera would be wet, it was in the sack on my handlebars.  But it was dry as a bone when we made it to Dan's carport and shelter from the rain.

We were all soaking wet and cold.  Amber made us some hot tea and distributed dry shirts to everyone.  My bra was soaking wet and by the time I got home and looked at myself in the mirror, I had two round wet spots on the nice dry shirt front.  What a sight.

glen:  no, I did not take a picture of that...............

But this is the sky as we headed back to our house in the CRV with the bikes in the rack!

Biking with Mike

We did 8.5 miles with Mike Stevens and that gang.  It was chilly but we kept our temps up with the pedaling!  Mike was challenged by several of his friends when he said the traffic is so bad he could ride his bike faster to work than his car.  So today was the end all to the challenge.  In fact, some rather large bets were placed against him!  All proceeds are going to the scholarship fund for the daughter of the bike rider who was killed by a drunk driver three weeks ago.  Nate was just 30 and a delightful guy.  What a shame.

The bet was that Mike could/or couldn't (depending on your wager) get from his house to his work in under 1/2 hour.  And his time was actually 22.6 minutes!

Ann set up a "water" station on the route with signs encouraging Mike and offering water and Gatorade to the riders.  Mike had to cross two major intersections, a route we normally do not travel.

At the finish line, Dona had a trophy for him, balloons, people cheered and hollared.  Mike came riding in like he rode every weekend!  Once at Oak Lodge, his destination, the bar opened and beer and bloody Mary's were served to the participants.  Dona laid out coffee, a king cake, muffins, fruit and banana bread.  You know you have to reload those carbs!

I will have you know.....I did not have one bite of anything!

Biking week 2

After the toilet paper incident, I needed to ride.  We knew we needed to ride Saturday because of all the stuff we need to do tomorrow.  The four of us headed out toward White Oak Lakes again.  We wanted to see what the water was doing, remember last week it was high up against the weir, which was unusual.

Last week bridge and bench
And WOW!  The water was even higher in the Amite River.  You can see it ponding in places I have not seen water before.  Even during the Mississippi Floods last year.

Last week Amite River
Here is the Last Week/This Week comparison.

This week near bridge and bench
This week Amite River
And notice the gorgeous day we had.  about 62 temps and not a cloud in the sky!  The pictures look so bright and beautiful from this week.  Funny how much a difference a bit of sun makes.

This week Amite River near trail
We rode 12.7 miles this week, a mile more than last for some reason, and we went the same route I thought. Dan asked me last week, for $100 would you do that again right now?  No way I said, $1,000,000 maybe.

This week he asked again, and my price was down to $1000!

glen:  Tammany Trace plans are in progress, and the group is growing.
