Sawyer Finds the Stairs for Easter!

I brought yellow tulips and Crawfish Etouffee to Carrie's and ate with Michael and Jamie and her kids and Ashley and Eric and their boys and a million eggs hidden everywhere.  When we left we were dyeing eggs and eating chocolate trifle.

We turned around and all  of a sudden there was Sawyer half way up the stairs!  Huh?  He just fearlessly followed the bigger kids right up there!

Once home I had plans to work in the the quilt room since Carrie asked me to work on a quilt for a friend of hers having a baby.  It is all cut out, big rectangle blocks just needing to be put together and quilted.  But the day was beautiful and the blower was just waiting to be used on the leaves that have been sitting there for months.

So I spent the afternoon and blew the leaves off the patio and out to where Frank can pick the up with the lawn mower next time he mows.

A lot of times I will find baby snakes waking up in the leaves.  Luckily there were none.  I was wearing sandals!  I kept thinking of my toes........

Oh, I wanted to tell you about the Performance Challenge Results.

I actually did quite well.  I didn't win,  but I didn't lose.  In one month I lost 2.89% of my body fat.  I was pretty impressed with myself.  I could actually see some muscle definition forming in my arms and legs and on my torso.

Like and idiot, I signed up for another month and will immediately miss the entire first week.  I am watching Sawyer while he is on Spring Break......aughhh!

I  have to find some way to get to the class meeting because there is no way I can miss a whole week and not kill myself getting back into the next week.  it is pretty intense.

I am sure I will quilt and post sporadically in the next three days with Sawyer.

Remarkable Photo That Will Never Happen Again

And not because it is me in there, although that may be case if the "straight tails mean they are dead" theory is true.

Crawfish, you know.  you are not supposed to eat the crawfish that have straight tails because that means they were dead before they got boiled.  Well, I ate three of them tonight.  So we shall see.

Today was the CAAWS Open House where we opened the shelter officially to the public with tours of our newly remodeled facility.  We held dog and cat adoptions as usual showcasing our brand spanking new parking lot, air and heating systems, fencing, system of 5 yard areas, 14 dog runs, cat activity shelves dog wash and grooming area and re-braced roofing so the whole thing won't come crashing down on the animals heads.

The building remodel was dedicated to Ted and Anna Anthos whose legacy provided us the money with which to do the extensive remodel of the building.  They were amazing people.  Escaping from Nazi Germany, her father was a Polish officer shot by Hitler's squads.  He worked in the resistance at age 13 until he was caught and brought to a prison camp.

We had cupcakes.

The Easter Bunny.

And I gave a speech.

Go to my faccbook page if you want to see me cry making that speech while I cut the ribbon at the  Open House.  Thanking my volunteers.  You can always think of a million things to say later, and ways to say it differently.

That is OK.  I said it from my heart.  It is hard, what we do,  But we do it anyway.

Holly Reynolds came.  Thirty nine years ago she started Capital Area Animal Welfare Society in her kitchen in 1979.

She stood beside me and we cut the ribbon to open the remodeled shelter together.

Holly is 99 years old.  And I am thinking this is the last time there will ever be a picture of the first president of CAAWS and the current president of CAAWS together.  And we were both proud to stand beside each other.

Stash Report, the Easter Opposum and Saturday Brunch With Family

Whew!  Two boys with sugar highs, bouncing off the wall.  Luckily Allison and Carrie had activities planned for the boys that included a lot of running to find hidden eggs, baskets and branches from a couple of trees.

Eric's mom made these bunny butt cupcakes.  The were so cute!

Saturday Brunch included mimosas so I was happy..........

We have nothing planned for Sunday, so hopefully i will get to work on sewing something........this week has been so woefully empty of sewing!

This oppossm was cleaning up the bird feed on the ground under the feeder.  My guess is that he generally comes earlier near dawn but the bad lightening and downpour kept him in this morning.

They are not really attractive creatures.  That hairless tail belies the fairly attactive fur.  This guy was wet, but that fur looked nicely groomed for visiting.

Stash Report Sunday!

I did the Modern Robin Round which took exactly one fat quarter!   Well, I think there were two pieces 1 1/2 by 3 left over, so I am counting it!

I gifted the Thimbleberries House to the neighbor who let us use their driveway while we were replacing ours.  She sent me this photo.  I  think she likes it.

Blue Cupcakes and the Easter Bunny at the Dog Park

Well, i got there late and missed the egg hunt.  But we got our photos taken with the Easter Bunny.

This is funny.  I brought my cupcakes.  When we were ready to leave they had  gotten $1 for each one in record time.  Everyone was raving a out the cupcakes.  They are so good I have never tasted anything like that, so different!  Well, it was a betty crocker cake mix called Blue Velvet.  but if you read closely it says "Vanilla cake with blue food coloring"!  Just plain old cake!  LOL

Here are some shots from the dog park.  I don't generally let my dogs go to the dog park.  Too many diseases they can catch from other dogs, ticks, fleas etc.

Bad Ass Bunny
And DiNozzo runs like a maniac and chases everything on 4 legs to the point of obnoxious-ness.  I kept him on lead.  Last time I took him it required 18 people and took 45 minutes to catch him.  And he had worn his pads down to bare bloody skin.

McGee did get let off lead and was very uncertain.  It was his first time in such an arena.  But after 10 minutes or so, he began to branch out and bebopped around by himself.  He was out in the field for maybe 15 minutes and he looks up and sees 3 people sitting at the picnic table.  He flew in so fast he was like a white streak across the yard!

He was totally disappointed to find they were not eating anything!  LOL

Happy Holiday to you, however you celebrate it.  I will be working in my quilt room.

Here are my chicks and bunnies for your viewing pleasure!

I really need to finish that quilt!

All I did this week was work on my Nudes Bathing, and that is so small.  I am getting excited about working again, now that my life seems to be leveling off a bit.  So maybe I will begin to make a serious dent in my stash for a change.  But I am still 20 yards out, so not too shabby.

BUT.....that said........I got some vintage fabrics from Cousin Karen on her last visit.  From her mother's stuff. I was stoked to see it.  But it does add calories!  I will count that next week and show you some fabulous pieces.
