Retro, Millefiori, and Sarah

`
I don't' know why the fabric picture did not post with yesterday's words about the retro fabric and pattern.........

https://payhip.com/b/VGU3

The pattern is is by Katie at Quiet Play called sew Retro Vintage Kitchen.  You can find it on Craftsy.  I think a nice pale green-ish/blue-ish/teal-ish background will be perfect.

And......

If you want to tell Sarah goodbye, check out her obituary here.

And....

This is for LeeAnna at Not Afraid Of Color, who like me, was terrified of starting the first rosette from Millefiori.

I was siting at my sewing machine and I saw group of fat quarters I have been collecting for like, 5 years.  And I thought, I need to use them in something really great.........

And there it was.  It took me about 3 hours to fussy cut, organize and glue baste he pieces for the center and the first round of 6 blocks.

OK, girlfriend.  It is up to you now.

Kitchen Emergency - Water Water Everywhere

So I tell Frank I want a gift card to Joann's for my birthday.  Yesterday was my brother's and next week is mine.  I hate these being so close to Christmas, and I purposely had Carrie at the end of June!  As far away from Christmas as possible.

He dropped his car off to get a new windshield so I picked him up and we headed to Joann's.  I wanted some micron pens for my zentangle drawings.  And some heavy watercolor paper to draw on to use for an idea I have.

He was really upset about me buying stuff at Joann's so close to my birthday.......which never occurred to me, but hey......a girl needs what a girl needs, right?

I get home and fill my soap dispenser and get soap all over the outside of it.  When I ran water in the sink it started coming out the dishwasher!

OMG!

Water everywhere.

I grabbed a bailing cup and started bailing out the dishwasher.  After 20 minutes I realized I was putting the water from the dishwasher into the sink .......  which was running BACK into the dishwasher..........geez.

Get the bucket.  McGee was in the yard tossing the bucket around, like an idiot.....really dog?

I bailed 3 buckets out before it stopped coming from the sink.  My tennies are soaked.

When Frank got home he reamed out the clean-out on the side of the house.   Don't you love a man who can fix things for you?  And aren't you glad you can handle these emergencies before they get to the disaster stage?

Now everything is working again.  Thank goodness we didn't have to call a plumber.......maybe tomorrow I will actually get into my sewing room......geez

Lighting in kitchens

Oh, so THIS is why Frank is so stressed all the time!  This came from the Prevention website, and I thought I would pass along this public service to you if you wanted to reduce stress and are in the kitchen a lot.

Never would have thought it!  I have undercabinet lighting installed in the last re-do because I was always working in my shadow.  This is really so much nicer.  And there are two drop lights over the bar cabinet where we took down the overhead cabinets to open the room up.

I love my kitchen!

High-wattage lighting can raise stress levels, stimulating your appetite and causing you to eat faster than usual, according to research reviews. On the flip side, too dim is no better--studies show low lighting lessens inhibitions.

Solution:

Many modern kitchens have layers of light sources, from under-the- cabinet halogens to recessed lights around the perimeter and a decorative fixture over the table, says Joseph Rey-Barreau, a lighting designer in Lexington, KY. When you're cooking, flip on as many lights as you'd like, but when it's time to eat, use no more than 240 total watts. That's the equivalent of four 60-watt bulbs in a four-light over-the-table fixture, for example, or six 40-watt bulbs in six high hats; with compact fluorescent bulbs, use 75 to 100 total watts.

Don't forget to check out the giveaway two posts back!
