Lips

Just to show you how much I love Suzette.......here are the lips.

Don't you just love that  color on me?

Here are the five of us at the parade.  I  saved this from Carrie's new camera and it auto corrected it to black and white.  Sometimes I
amaze myself at what I can do without even knowing it!

This is a new project.  I figured if I am finishing up two quilts this month I can add at least one more to the pile.  Right?

This is the grandmother's house  in Little Red Riding Hood.  I need to go copy some additional tree blocks today, I need 6 of them.  I only copied 3 for some reason.

And then there is Red and the Wolf blocks.  Been wanting to do this one for a while.

Throw Me Something, Mister!

Yes, that is the standard Mardi Gras yell!  Throw me something, Mister! Ya just gotta yell it!

If you have never been to Mardi Gras, you are missing  one of the great joys in life!  No one can stand by a parade route and be unhappy.  And worse yet, no one can just stand there and not yell for beads!

Artemis is an all female krewe and generally the first to roll in Baton Rouge, after the CAAWS Mystic Krewe of Mutts that is.  Which was last Sunday.

We stood on the street waiting for the parade to roll.  First come the police motorcycles and the high school marching bands.  And the extra tractors in case one of the tractors pulling a float has a problem.

Everybody throws stuff!  From the radio station cars to the floats;  from the King and Queen and the Dukes and Pages and Parade Marshalls.

And EVERYONE on the floats!

Lots of opportunity to catch stuff!  Between each float are marching bands and dance groups strutting their stuff.  And there are always horses and horse brigades and carriages.

In the old days, like when I was young, there were flambeau carriers that light front o the floats with real fire staffs they carried high over the street.  It was way cool!  I miss the beauty of the lighted flambeaus.

What do they throw?

Beads, stuffed toys, ring, bracelets, frisbees, candy, lighted sticks and alligator heads, doubloons and
beads.  Some throw fruit, I got hit in the head with a banana at one point.

And you can't take your eyes off of everyone on the float -- because when you do you get hit in the head with something hard and fast.

My favorite things were these blinky rings and a huge set of bright red lips!  LOL.

As you can see, Sawyer cleaned up in his first parade.  Must be all his New Orleans genes!

Krewe of Mutts Parade and Stash Report Negativity

This year's theme is Marvelous Mutts!  Dress up and enter a costume contest with your best friend!  this is the 16th year CAAWS is putting on the Mystic Krewe of Mutts Parade in downtown  Baton
Back
Front
Rouge, LA.

 CAAWS PARADE INFO WEBSITE
See the T-Shirt graphics here as well

The parade is our largest fundraiser and is a huge event in the city, we call it the Mutts Parade.  The proceeds help spay and neuter hundreds of cats and dogs each year.  We are helped by sponsors Raising Canes Chicken Fingers, BRECO Credit Union and BREC.

I will be out there selling t-shirts.  I think they are still $15 but they could be $20 on parade day.....I can't remember.

We do a t-shirt every year, and people actually collect them!  This year's shirt is the best I have ever seen, the picture is on the front AND the back! LOL.  I complain every year one way or the other.  This year they fixed it right!  LOL

If you want a t-shirt text me at 225-252-1100 and I will save one for you.  They go fast!

I completed the quilting on the Octopus quilt. So that puts me within 6 yards of being in the NEGATIVITY RANGE!  Maybe next week it can be a goal!

Last Day of Parade Registration - How Can I Be So BUSY??

My Registration Krewe
T-Shirt Sales
The CAAWS Mystic Krewe of Mutts Parade is Sunday so today at the shelter was the last registration and the day to pick up your t-shirts.

Did I show you the t-shirts this year? I love the theme an the design this year.

Some years are so-so, but this is a so-great year!

If you want a t-shirt go onliine and order now, because I will sell all of them  at the parade tomorrow.  These are collectors items over the years.

AND LET ME KNOW SO I CAN PUT IT ASIDE AND NOT SELL IT

I put the sandwich boards together that my LSU students will wear to broadcast about the $25,000 matching campaign, the Mardi Gras Money Match, and all my yard signs are picked up and ready to be put into place by my Scottish Rite volunteers.

It is amazing that this parade actually goes off without a hitch........well, maybe I won't sat totally without a hitch.  But  at the end of the day, dogs are tired and happy, people have had fun, and we sleep  knowing we have done the good work for a good cause.

Spay and Neuter is our dominant theme, and the parade is our largest fundraiser each year.  Every penny donated to CAAWS goes to the animals, for their care, and for either Feral trap/neuter/release programs or to provide low income areas with spay/neuter services.

Sophie Junction's Tea Towel Challenge

If you are keeping up with Sophie's Tea Towel Challenge over at her wonderful blog Sophie's Junction then you will know I should be further ahead than I am right now.

What else is new?

So I plan on working on it this weekend.  Stop in and see if I have anything done on it.

Maybe I will start tomorrow after I
get some work for CAAWS done.  We were the lucky recipient of a large donation of $25,000.  A huge donation, in fact.  And the donor has said that if we match the donation, he will add additional money.  So CAAWS has constructed the CAAWS Big Money Match Campaign.  We will launch it in 17 days at the CAAWS Mystic Krewe of Mutts Parade on Feb 16, Sunday.

I need to get some signage and sandwich boards made and work on some direct mail.

In a week or so when it all comes together on the website, I am hoping that each of you will visit our website at www.caaws.org and make a donation of even a single dollar toward that program.  100% of the money CAAAWS takes in goes to the animals in some way.  No one takes a salary, we all work for love!

Kelly should have a specific donation button up next week.  For those in Baton Rouge, look for us on the morning TV
programs talking about the parade and the CAAWS Big Money Match!  If you want to help with the parade or the Big Money Match Campaign please email me and let me know.  We need bodies too!

This is the first big project since I became President.  Whew!  Hard work making money for Spay and Neuter!

2013 Theme: Totally Paw-some 80's!

I wish I had a  I found a picture of one to show you, I know you will want one.  They have been collectible every year for the last 14 years and after tomorrow there will be none left.  This parade theme is Totally Pawsome 80's and I am sure there will be a lot of tie-dye going on.

Sunday the Parade starts around 1 but come early we have Bark in the Park with maybe 50 - 70 booths selling all kids of doggy stuff.  There are still some spots in the parade if you want to walk.

That is how CAAWS gets money to fund the rest of the year, by having people walk in the parade for their donations.
