Hanging a 6 Woman Fiber Art Show

Frank kept telling me I was getting worse, not better.  So he called and got me an appt at our doctor.   I drug my illness wracked body to the car.  I was coughing my fool head off, and struggling to breathe.  Frank looked normal.

When Doc Lee came in and examined me, he looked at Frank and asked if he was having symptoms as well.  Frank says, Why, Yes.

The doctor listened to his lungs, decided on shots and pills for us.  I was coughing and trying to breathe the whole time.  He left only to return a few mutes later, and once again listened to Frank's chest.

He even said, I am really concerned about you, Frank, and asked the PA to take his temperature once again.  No temp, once again.

He leaves....again.   And returns again......Yep, to listen to Frank's chest.

Hey, I am the one that is so sick here!  Frank will do anything to upstage me.  Right?

We both got shots, but I got a steroid shot and antibiotic pills, and Frank got antibiotic shot and steroid pills.  Go figure.

I guess this worked because we were much better this morning when we were at Denham Springs to hang what I have been calling the 8x8 Show because we each had an 8x8 panel space.

Afterwards we all went to eat at Randazzo's where I knocked over my extra large Dr. Pepper-no-ice  dousing Tracy's salad, her lap and all over Judy.

Here is Frank putting up my Big Oil.  You can catch a glimpse of my Crow Morning Barn, the Matisse Lady Michaela, 3613 (my house)  the Sun, and the Spring Forest Modern Robin tree.

Here is Bebe telling us the best place to put each piece.

Rainy Day Sewing

The  Block Lotto is back in full swing.  If you played with them before you might want to head over and see what is happening now.  There are guest Lotto Masters who guide the months rather than Sophie doing all the work.  New and fresh.

So this month is using up some orphan blocks and scraps.  I was going to do more, but I ended up with 5 blocks.  The orphans need to be 3 1/2 unfinished and my orphans are all larger blocks.  So I used up these 5 for the pot.

Not particularly  my cup of tea but I will offer them up as donation blocks for the kitty.

I spent the afternoon clearing up some of the clutter I created on my sewing table.  Boy, is it a mess!

One of the things was the back that needed to be sewn for the Daily Bird. Basically what I do is just hang up the quilt top and cover it with the backing material.

Then I fill in the gaps!

I generally add a white or ecru square for the label information.  I like that better than sewing on labels at the end.    See the birds through the label?

You can see my One Road Through Town piece that will be in at least one show this spring.  Maybe two.  I will have to see what it gets juried into.

I got another tree block done tonight.  Nothing on TV,  so I just sewed.  The block is next to Red.

I will even them out when they are all done.

Here is the whole layout so far.  The long piece on the right will be the border.  I will start laying out the words soon.

AND.......you will be pleased to know.  I think I have my next quilt chosen.  My friend Bertha in California sent me the templates for the one she did.  I will have to ask her if I can post it.  It is amazing.  More on that later though.

I had the book it came from, but of course it flooded.

And I need to quilt a few things before I get too far ahead on the tops........not that
I am not far enough behind in everything, but you know what I mean........

Modern Guild Night

My favorite guild is the Modern Guild.  No charity projects, no long business meetings, no huge crowds.  Just lots of information, projects for show and tell and great programs.  I learn something every time I attend a meeting.

We exchanged the Modern Robin for the last time.  Now we embellish, quilt and bind it; in other words, finish it up.

The one I ended up with is small so I may do something unusual with it.  Just warning you!

Daisy, not the quilt shop owner but the other one, did a fabulous program on paper piecing.  She makes her own patterns, something I have no patience for.

Here she is with her airplane......oh yes! I am in love!

Now I need to dig out my Fight 370..............

This afternoon I took the bottom two branches, the smaller blocks and turned them around. the one with the triangles is the old one, the one on the right is new and improved.

And I wanted to show you a beautiful passion flower from the yard of a friend.  We had dinner there over the weekend.   The vine was covered with these alien looking flowers!

Boy, Did I Do That Bass-Ackwards

Let me tell you something.  I thought this block would be easy, but......

Technically it is easy.  But it has taken all my improvisational know-how to create this block.  the book is good, but I think it really expects you to be way more comfortable with the whole of improv quilting.

And........

Add to that my harebrained idea of mine.  I thought I would use a second set of squares and sew off them so I wouldn't have all the strings to cut of.  I forget what they call it.  Some people make a whole SECOND quilt.  Or at least have  a group of blocks already sewn together

But........

I couldn't find my box of 2 1/2 inch squares.  I couldn't find my box of 2 inch strips.  I couldn't find my box of triangles or my box of laser cut wedges.  So I grabbed a stack of HUGE ten inch 60 degree triangles I cut out at the Quilt Haus last time i was there.

I had a set of solids in 10 inch squres.  That is what I used.

So here i was, figuring out how to make these tiny 3 1/2 inch tree squares AND precision piecing huge 60 Degree triangles!  I  kept having to change back and forth  in my mind, what am I doing on this one now?  Oh, wrong one!  Rip Rip Rip!

SO..........

The first tree block was a tosser.  But the rest of them turned out way cool!

And the triangle blocks are way cool!

And I think it needs to be called Earth Girls Are Easy!

I have 64 more tree blocks to do.

I think THAT should be called Earth Girls Are CRAZY!

And this guy was visiting my nandina flowers.  you might need to click on it to make it larger.

Think Bumble Bee.

It is a fabulous photo

Merry Christmas to all and I hope you get MORE!

If I don't get back to you for what ever reason, I wanted to make sure you knew I wanted you all to have a Merry Christmas.

My tree is minimalist this year due to the constraints of the surgery....and time.  But it is still pretty.  I find it interesting how we can see beauty in less when we never thought about it before.  We usually load our tree with the wonderful ornaments we have collected in our 38 years of marriage, 25 years of child rearing, and life.

This year we have not a single ornament.  And it is still beautiful.  Next year the ornaments will be back on, simply because they are a lifetime of our memories.  And we do want them on the tree.

Merry Christmas, I hope your Christmas is definitely MORE!

glen:  thanks to all of you for being my friends.  I love you all!
